The shot rang out, echoing down the halls and around the freezer. My grip around Harry tightened, securing him against my chest. The shot was a good ways away, but they sounded like they need help. I shut my eyes tightly, burying my nose in the crook of Harry’s neck and inhaled his scent. I smiled against his skin when I felt him shiver, temped- oh so tempted- to kiss his neck. He nuzzled further into me and my smile grew, if that was even possible. I pulled my face from his neck and opened my eyes gazing at everyone else, who watched us with soft eyes. I sent them a sheepish smile, and they smiled back, causing me to beam.

“Any more questions?” I asked quietly. I really didn’t want to answer any more, but they deserved answers- hell, they deserve a lot more for not killing me and acting like nothing happened and they didn’t just find out a life altering secret.

“Who- who was that guy that held you at gunpoint? He seemed to know you pretty well.” Zayn asked, stepping back a centimeter like he was scared I would lash out at him for asking. I grimaced- I really didn’t want to go into detail about him, or anything in my painful past, but I promised I would answer anything and everything honestly.

“His name is Nick, Nick Grimshaw, and before the virus hit he was my brother’s best friend. They were inseparable, and sometimes I would get so jealous because my brother- Greg- treated him more like a brother than he did to me. Eventually I got over it and the three of us were close, sure I had my own friends but I only had one best friend and that was Nick’s younger brother Josh. (A/N I know this isn’t true but for entertainment purposes…) Once the virus hit we were all separated and we all lost people. I found out Josh was killed by a robber, took everything he had one night. We decided to stay inside, my family and I, and not try and leave the city. We didn’t want to risk it, to risk getting the virus.” I said, taking a breather, I didn’t want to start crying. I knew they were confused as to why I was telling them everything, but it all matters up until this point. They had to know my background to get who Nick was, and to get why what he did was so horrible. I looked up from playing with Harry’s curls- unconsciously running my hands through them as he hid his face in the crook of my neck- and saw they were all now leaning forward, looking like little kids during story time and the story was just getting good. I cracked a small smile at how innocent the bunch really was, and took a deep breath before continuing with my tale. “One night, I forgot to bolt the door up all the way- I didn’t believe that walkers were capable of opening doors- and a pack wandered into the house. Greg and I, we shared a room, it was just safer that way. And my parents shared one too. We woke up to screaming, and me thinking I’m a bad ass, decides to go and check it out. Of course, I thought it was just Greg playing me or something, so I wasn’t worried. Turns out, I should have been. My parents door was wide open, which it never was at night- and at that moment I should have known to leave, to run but I didn’t- and I walked into the room. The screams had stopped by then, and all that was heard was moans and some slurping noises and- me being a teenager- thought my parents were you know, relieving stress and having sex but they weren’t.” I paused, tears welling up in my eyes at the traumatic experience, images flashing through my eyes. Harry reached down and pulled one of my hands off of his waist and quickly intertwined his fingers with mine, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze. I instantly felt better, feeling courage build up in me as I took a deep breath and continued. “I found my parents in their bed, but the covers were ripped off the bed and their intestines were hanging out. Blood was everywhere and the sight was horrid, I still have nightmares of that night. Two walkers were eating them, like they were some midnight snack.” I shuddered, and Harry snuggled closer to me, causing me to smile and stroke his curls. “There was a third one, but I didn’t know it at the time. After seeing my parents like that, I tried walking out silently. But, I was walking backwards and I wasn’t looking where I was going and ran into a walker. She was a little girl, no older than 10, and I remember seeing her and freezing- wondering why God would let something like this happen, a 10 year old girl: dead before she could even experience life. She bit me, and I ended up kicking her before grabbing my side and running to our shared room.  I woke up Greg, and we grabbed our emergency backpacks, jumped out the window, and ran. We ran and ran and ran, far away from our dead parents and everything we knew. I didn’t tell anyone about the bite, I mean I only had Greg to tell and I didn’t want to lose him. After 3 weeks, I was fine and nothing had happened like it should have. I looked and it was scabbing over and healing, so I said nothing about it to Greg. He found out and came to the conclusion that I was immune to the virus, and that I could be the cure. Eventually we went and sought out the ‘safe zone’ and stayed there for a bit. But then all hell broke loose. We decided to leave but it didn’t work out for us. Nick, he was a soldier there, but he never told us. We told him about our plan to leave and he turned us in. We were so close, but Greg got shot in the leg and made me keep going. I was just outside of the gate when I saw him on his knees, and Nick holding a gun to his head. And then he shot him. And now he’s after me.” I sighed. I know I left out some parts of the story, but they weren’t necessary. And they could put not only me but them in danger. Sure, there was a price on my head and quite a large reward. But im sure they would kill anyone who brought me unless it was one of their men, and even then they might just to make sure the reward is all for them. The reward of immunity. I looked up at everyone and saw tears in their eyes threatening to fall, and then I was being crushed in a giant group hug. I laughed hugging them all back, knowing that nothing would change- well nothing but we now all trust each other completely. We all sat back down, Harry still curled up in my lap when there was the sound of running footsteps and trash being kicked around outside. I groaned quietly, and felt Harry’s heartbeat pick up. His hand gripped my shirt, holding me in place, but I kissed his head and pried his grip from my shirt. He started shaking his head franticly trying to keep me in place but I gently stood up and placed him in Liam’s lap. Tears gathered in his eyes as he desperately reached out for me, begging for me not to go while Liam held him in his arms. I kissed Harry’s head before standing straight and grabbing my gun, quietly making my way out of the door desperately trying to block out Harry’s whimpers that were killing me. I saw a figure hunched over the table, breathing hard, and clutching his arm. I raised the gun, clearing my throat causing the man to jump and face me. His eyes locked with the gun and he raised his hands above his head instantly wincing. His hair falls over his face, but I can still slightly see his eyes. Something about those eyes seems familiar to me though.
