Inami pushed him away and looked down. Kaneki was confused as he sat back up. "...Im..sorry...." Kaneki smiled and sat closer to her. "For what?" Inami didn't look at him. She stood up and left. "Inami? Wait!" Kaneki sighed as the door slammed shut. "Hmm..." Kaneki changed out of his battle suit and put on a jacket and pants. He headed out of his room. "Oi! Where are you going?" Ayato asked asked as Kaneki headed down the hallway. "Out for a bit." Kaneki replied and left. As Kaneki walked around town, he tried his best to stay away from anyone he knew.
Kaneki pasted a shop window that showed rings and and necklaces. He walked in the tiny shop and bought something small. Once he was happy with what he got, he hurried back before anyone noticed he was gone. Kaneki knocked on Inami's door. She opened it and peered at him. ''May I come in?" Kaneki asked with a smile. Inami opened her door wider and Kaneki walked in. She closed the door after him and sat in the middle of the floor. Kaneki handed her a little box. "...." She opened it and saw a ring inside. "....." She stared at it. It was just a small pearl. "It's a mood ring. It changes color with your mood." Inami looked at it. Kaneki read the little slip of paper that told him what every color ment .
Inami slipped it on and the white pearl turned blue. "Hmm..it says your relaxed. Is that right?" Inami continued staring at the pearl and it turned black. "Oh...now your stressed." Kaneki chuckled a little. Inami took it off and went through a bag of some stuff she collected from the bodies she killed. A silver chain was one thing she found. Inami slipped the ring on the chain and clipped it around her neck. Kaneki smiled. "I'm glad, I thought you would trash it. Inami shook her head. Kaneki smiled. "Hey, Inami..we're you always an orphan? Ever since birth I mean." She shook her head. "I..had a mother....my father left when I was little. When I was 10, my mother got sick..and died. I was sad and I cried for hours. I took care of her body just like she wanted." Kaneki was intrigued. "What did you do with her?" He asked. "...I ate her."
Kaneki's eyes widened. "And your mother wished for that?" Inami nodded. "After my mom died, I remembered my dad leaving a letter saying that if she ever died, to call him. I called the number...and I got scolded. My father called me a monster and he was ashamed of me. So I waited and waited, I didn't eat for months..trying to win my father's love back..but then the owners of the orphanage found me and took me away. I only wanted to be with my father...I still do." Inami looked down. Kaneki sighed. "I'm sorry. We're you always this 'quiet'?" Inami shook her head. "No.''
Kaneki tried to think of Inami actually smiling and laughing but he couldn't. She stared at him. "Follow me.." Inami said and jumped from her window. Kaneki sighed and followed. Once Kaneki got down, Inami went into town. She stayed in the ally ways to avoid being seen. Kaneki did the same. "Where are we going?" Kaneki asked. Inami started running. "Inami?!" Kaneki chased her. Before he could tell, Kaneki was standing in front of a tall building surrounded by police tape. They both walked in and saw dried blood on the walls and floor. Broken furniture and chalk outlines. "I did this..." Inami said. Kaneki was surprised. "This was when your sister found out about you?" Kaneki asked and she nodded entering a room. It was small with pink walls. "This was mine and my sisters room." Inami muttered and moved one of the bunk beds out of the way and removed some of the floor board.
Kaneki looked over her shoulder as she pulled a suitcase out from the hole. "This is my stuff..so I'm not stealing." Inami stood up. "Let's go, there's a VCR player on the second floor back with Aogiri." Kaneki nodded. "Right." They made their way back and into the, what looked like a board meeting room and plugged in the VCR. Inami pulled out a tape from the case and popped it in. She played the tape and sat in one of the chairs. Kaneki sat next to her. The video finally played and it showed toddlers running around and playing together. The person holding the camera was laughing and moved it the camera to a girl that was a little older then the rest. She had her back to the camera and was kneeling in the grass. "Inami!" The man behind the camera called and the girl turned around. She had a long pony tail and bandages on the sides of her face. She smiled big and ran up to the camera. Kaneki's eyes widened and started comparing features to Inami and the girl in the video. Inami took her mask off so it was easier. "Look Headmaster! I caught a butterfly!'' Inami smiled and opened her hands. A monarch butterfly with a torn wing was in her palm. "It's hurt. Inami, did you do that? " She nodded. "It wanted to leave me..but I didn't want to play alone so I made sure it could never leave me." Kaneki was shocked by her response. The video went fuzzy and it switched to back in the orphanage.
The guy was muttering and opened a door to the spare room. Crying could be heard as he stepped in. "Inami? Where are you? It's late." He wonder the room and saw Inami in the corner. She was ripped the sides of her face. "GET OUT!!" She screamed and the camera went fuzzy again. "Inami! Get down from there!" The man yelled ad Inami jumped from the window. He ran outside and caught her while she was trying to run away.. "what are you doing?" She was crying. "I want my daddy!" The man sighed. "He's gone, remember? We're your family now, your brothers and sisters are worried-..." "I HATE IT HERE!" Inami cried. The video ended and Kaneki was surprised. "You..gave yourself those scars.." "All the adults feared me.." "I see.." Inami put the video back and looked in her suitcase. She found a bag full of mp3s. "Where did you get those?" Kaneki asked. "I stole them when I was younger. "She pulled out some headphones and pluged them into one of mp3s and listen to her music. "Inami?" "......" Kaneki sighed. "Did she do that to drown me out?" Kaneki chuckled some. He looked in her case and saw a stuffed animal. He pulled it out and looked at it. "A panda?" Inami blushed and tried to take it back. Kaneki held it out of her reach. She glared and gut punched him. Kaneki dropped it and groaned. She grabbed it and put it back in the case. "Baka.."
