I did give a warning in the description about dark themes, and from here on out they're going to be present, I don't think there's going to be any major triggers in future chapters, but I'll note them if I think there is anything. I hope this doesn't put you off reading!

Warning: mentions of murder, death and similar themes.

Phil
"It's Shane isn't it?" He asked the quieter boy that he saw earlier on. Shane looked far more approachable than Mark or whatever he was called.

"Yeah, that's me." he replied. It was only him and Phil there, Dan had left to go to one of his usage of gifts classes, leaving Phil on his own for an hour. He decided to do a little homework of his own while Dan was gone. There were a number of questions he wanted the answers to.

"I really shouldn't be talking to you." he stated quickly, rushing all his words like he didn't want Phil to hear them.

"Why not?" Phil enquired.

"If they see me talking to you -"

"If who sees? Alfie?"

"And the others." Shane looked around to make sure no one else was stood nearby, they were both alone, though he still spoke in a whisper. "I'm scared of them, of what they do. But I can't leave, I can never leave, they'll do to me what they do to everyone else that crosses them."

"Which is what?" Phil couldn't begin to guess what Shane was talking about.

"People like Dan are lucky to be alive, that's all I'm going to say. They're all awful, I don't want to be around them any more, I never did. The only reason I'm there is because I'm the foundations of whatever they're planning. If I'm not there then the entire thing collapses."

Phil had no clue of what he was talking about. Why was Dan involved in this? Chris had said to him that they went around terrorising some of the students, and that was all. Was there something else going on that he didn't know about? Something more sinister?

"Shane, you need to tell me what's going on."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"Would you use your power on me to force me to tell you?"

An odd question to ask. It had crossed his mind for a fraction of a second but he'd made up his mind a long time ago that he'd never use his powers to get what he wanted, he wasn't going to break the promise he made to himself unless he absolutely had to.

"I thought about it, but I'd never do that to anyone."

"At least I know you're honest."

"What?" Phil shot him a puzzled look.

"You weren't lying, I could tell. That's my power, I can detect when someone lies." he spoke just as quietly as before. "I know my ability isn't quite as scary as everyone else's, but I've never had an issue with it - there's always a designated person to make everyone else look better, it's just bad luck that it happens to be me. That's why they want me there - for my ability, I suppose that's one of the reasons why I'm still in that group, I'm just being used."

"What's the other reason?"

"I know too much."

"Can you tell me what happens and why that group are using you for your powers?" Phil asked.

"I'll tell you. But if anyone finds out, both of us are done for. Come somewhere away from the school, the walls have ears - and strange teenagers with invisibility powers who could easily get the news to Alfie that I've told someone,"
