Chapter 14 Krepsley and Eiffel
“When do you think she will stop crying?” I asked.
“I don’t know.” Iris sighed.
After Jade drank the blood she started hysterically crying and calling herself a monster. That was two hours ago and she was still going as if she had just started. They tried to calm her down by telling her that the blood was synthetic but that didn’t make any difference to her. I couldn’t blame her for being devastated about the whole thing.
“We all reacted differently when we found out. I went on a killing spree and turned people left and right.” Iris sighed again rubbing her temples.
The nonstop sobbing was giving everyone a headache. Some even left the house to avoid it and said they would be back when Jade stopped. Iris, 35, and I were in her room while Roger of all people was trying to console the sobbing girl.
“How could you not know?” I asked thinking aloud. I think I would have notice if my blood ran cold and I started wanting to eat people. 35 stared at me and then rolled his eyes. I guess he had wondered this too, but just never asked.
“Maybe she denied it. That’s what I did. I had a feeling the whole time but denied it until I couldn’t. But even after that I still lived my life like normal because my family did. I didn’t know if they knew or not.”
“So years of looking the same and never changing made you talk about it?” I already knew how she found out what she was.
“The day I was supposed to die made us talk about it.” Kinsley said darkly when he walked into the room. No one had noticed him standing in the doorway or knew how long how long he had been there.
“It was a little more than a year after we turned. It was my twelfth birthday. I was sailing a boat on the Allier River and I lost my balance. When I fell in, my foot was tangled in the ropes unaware at the time that I am what I am…I panicked.
Water filled my lungs and I felt the pain of dying that way. But after some time I freed myself and resurfaced. Horrified screams of Sunday afternoon park goers filled the air when they realized that I was still very much alive. We had no choice but to talk about what we were after that.”
He sat down on the small grey and black floral couch and placed a bottle on the silver coffee table. “Oh and I got Jade to go to sleep.” Kinsley smirked.
I closed my eyes and listened. There was nothing but the sounds of the house. Kinsley had left the door open so there would be no way to question the silence. 35 picked up the bottle that Kinsley had put on the table and read the label.
“Chloroform.” 35 and Iris glared at him. Strangely they were angry with him while I on the other hand thought it was a great idea.
“It was Roger’s idea.” He said defensively. I could see Roger suggesting such a thing.
35 sighed. “Where is everyone?”
“When I called they said they went to go feed. They don’t like that synthetic stuff. I don’t see how you drink it, Iris.”
“I don’t have any other choice.” Iris said. She wouldn’t drink human blood rather it be from a person or a bag.
“Sure you do.” Kinsley gave her a playful smile. “35, If Iris asked you for some of your blood would you willing give it to her?”
I looked to 35 interested to hear his reply. And without hesitation he answered. “I would do anything for her.”
His voice was full of truth. 35 would really do anything for Iris.
