Chapter 1: The Day That Changed My Life
Dazed, blurred in the eyes, thinking. Sitting at my desk in school until it happened. A book was dropped on my desk and it made a loud slap being me back to Earth.
"Wake up!" Mrs. Hanson yelled.
I jumped immediately and fell out of my seat! Humiliation as the class laughed as if i were a clown in a circus!
“Mr. Dudley would you like to teach this class? Since you know the lesson so well that you think you don’t have to pay attention,” everybody stared at me eager to hear my reply. I tried to think of something smart to say, but I had no such luck.
“Uh…no Ma’am,” I told her.
“Then start paying attention,” she scoffed and walked back to the front of the class to continue teaching, but then she paused. “And Mr. Dudley…” she smirked.
I knew what she was going to say before she said it. The woman hated me for no good reason. I unfortunately enough to be suck with her all through high school and this was only my third year. Mrs. Hanson has to be the biggest bitch on the planet. I sunk in my seat as her words where thrown at me.
“One week of after school detection.”

“Man, that sucks. She’s always pickin’ on ya,” Blake said catching up to me. Blake has been my best friend since I moved here in fifth grade. “If I didn’t know any better I’d say she might have a thing for ya,” he smirked.
“Shut up!”I punched him in the arm hard enough to get my point across without hurting him. “That’s not funny.”
“Gosh, my bad,” he said rubbing his arm. “You know your going to have to spend detection in the library.”
I stopped dead in my tracks, “The library?”
“Yeah. The evil, evil library, the place of no return. The place so awful that…”
“I get it!” I cut him off. “The library is the worst place to serve detection. They make organized all the books that have been returned. All week with those horrid old ladies and it smells awful in there too,” I whined. The library really isn't all that bad, but its not great either. It had wall to wall red carpet that smelled like mildew and in some spots the floor creaked.
“Tough break. Well see you around Aleck,” Blake said heading for the gym.
“Yeah,” I called back then headed for my doom.
I go to James Polk High School it opened in 1908. Most of the school has either been rebuilt or remodeled in the past ten years, but not the library. There has been no attempt to improve it since the late 60s, early 70s. Anyone could tell that it was old as dirt. The library was no longer part of the school building, it now stands on its own, across a small courtyard.
I pushed the big creaky wooden door open and Mrs. Needley greeted me. “One more minute and you would have gotten another day of detection,” she said looking at her watch, “Now go stand with the others.”
I came to find that four other boys have been saddled with the same punishment as me. We stood in a line a waiting our task for the next hour and a half. Mrs. Needley walked up and down the line like a Drill Sergent before she dished out our tasks.
“You two are going to be taking down all the decorations in the display cases,” she pointed at two other boys. “You have to turn off all the computers and pick up any trash that may have been left behind. And you, Mr. Dudley have to put away both of those carts of books. Got it?”
We all nodded our heads.
“Now get to it,” she then left us to our tasks.
“This is stupid,” One boy sneered. “I was just late to class and Mr. Cien gives me detection.”
“You were late to his class for the 11th time this month,” One of the other boys commented, they most have been in the same class.
“Well you’re no better. You, got yourself in here because…”
I walked away, getting started on my punishment. If they kept that up we would all get in more trouble.
Putting the books up wasn’t hard. I had learned about the dewy decimal system back in grade school. It was just really annoying. I was finding the home for every book rather quickly. I was down to my last book when I realized it was bare. The cover and backing was only a pale bluish purple color.
I opened the book to if maybe it had accidently was put on the cart. I discovered that it didn't belong there, it was hand written and not only that, but it was a diary.
A Girl’s Diary.
Our school had been an all boys’ school up until just this year. There had been many complaints from parents about how the boy’s school was funded better than the girls. So in an effort to stop the complaints they opened the school for girls as well. Girls have now started coming to the school, but not many. The boy to girl ratio is five to one.
The Diary had to belong to one of the girls here. I open it to see how long it might have been sitting here. The last entry was dated a week ago.
