Chapter 6 I Had to Ask: part 2
“ A Vampire.” She said with a look of disgust.
“What?!”
“V. A. M. P. I. R. E. Vampire.”
“So I was right.” She gave me a disbelieving look.
“This,” I gestured between us. “ Was all just a prank. Okay very funny. You did a great job. Who set me up?”
She gaped at me then started laughing.
“What?”
She composed herself. “I was wrong. Your not as smart as I thought.” She let out another chuckle. “ What I say is the truth, I am a vampire. I am not human and haven’t been for a very very long time.”
“So you really were born in 1704?”
“Yes.”
“How? When did it happen?”
“This is neither the time or the place. Besides you’re going to be the one to help me change all this.”
“Change what?”
“I’ll see you later Aleck Dudley, my 37.”She started to walk away and then seemed to vanish right before my very eyes.
“Oh my God…I’m dead or in a coma or something. I must have tripped and fell on that rock I saw.” I patted down my body. I didn’t find anything wrong. Maybe it was just my imagination. I have been stressed out about finals at school and didn’t get much sleep last night.
“That has to be it.” I muttered to myself and continued home. Once I got out of the woods I ran the rest of the way. I entered the house thru the front door breathing heavily.
“Running from bullies?” Susie asked innocently.
“Shutup…Susie! Where’s…Mom and…Dad?”
“Susan.” She said sharply. I am never going to call her Susan. Not because I just want to annoy her, but I have been calling her Susie her whole life. After New Year’s she decided that she was too grown up and had to give up childish things, one of them being called Susie. “Somebody famous was coming to Daddy’s newest restaurants. And Mom wanted to help make sure everything goes smoothly.”
“Oh. Well I’m going to be in my room if you need me for anything.”
“I won’t.”
“Brat.”
“I can hear you.”
“You were supposed to.”
“Ugh!”
I quickly made my way upstairs. I started my homework, but finished it with mostly wrong answers because I was finding it impossibly hard to focus. So I flopped face down on my bed and drifted off to sleep.

“Aleck.” A soft voice called first I thought it was my mother but the voice didn’t sound anything like her. “Aleck.”
“Hmmm.” I hummed with my eyes still shut and body unmoving.
“Aleck…you’re going to be the one to save me.” The voice whispered and I felt fingers brush across my cheek.
I pried my heavy lids to see who was in my room. A familiar looking girl stood before me. Dressed in thick layers of toil but still looking light and ethereal. “Iris?” I questioned. Not sure of what to think. Had this whole day been a dream or maybe the past few days. She giggled. “Aleck…Aleck…Aleck…”
I felt my body start to shake uncontrollably and the girl was no longer there but I continued to hear my name being called repeatedly. I squeeze my eyes shut again trying to think of a way to stop the shaking. “Aleck!” My name rang in my ear and my body stopped shaking. My eyes flash open.
I quickly scanned the room to find Susie standing next to my bed.
“What?!” I yelled back at her.
“I wish we could have sold you to the circus.” She mumbled under her breath. Two years ago we had all went to the circus as a family and she wanted to sell me, so she could get a pony. “You’re going to be late for school. It’s 7:30.” She said pointing at the alarm clock. I only had half an hour to get ready.
“Why aren’t you dressed?” Noticing that she was still in her pajamas.
“I’m not going to school. I’m having one of those days.” She said dramatically with her fake British accent standing out more than usual.
“I’m sure.”
“Hmph!”
“Get out so I can get ready.”
**********
Blake took me to school I sat in the back while Jessie took the front. Her being back means that yesterday really did happen. Just maybe some of the events didn’t. I tried to reassure myself and it was working. The day was going by smoothly. I took my math exam, which I’m sure I aced. Everyone, even the teachers were starting to relax because we only had one final to go. After that school would be smooth sailing. Before lunch I headed to my locker and that’s when I saw her. Out the corner of my eye I saw Iris. As she made her way over I closed my locker. She took a place leaning up against the locker next to mine.
“Hi.” She said innocently.
I just stared at her. Just the other day she had claimed to be a vampire and disappeared before my very eyes.
“Who’s your friend?” Someone asked from behind us.
