Chapter 20- Hangovers and Drama

Start from the beginning

“Yeah, let me go get them.” I left the room.

“Fuck!” I hear Leigha get out of bed and then her puking. I put the aspirin on my dresser and ran to where she was. I grab her hair and pulled it back in one hand. With my other hand I rub her back.

“Luke, can I stay home?” She questions quietly.

“Sorry you can’t hold your drinks, but I’ll call your mother and ask.”

“Lukey, will you stay with me? Pleasee,” she begs as she finishes throwing up. I help her wipe her face.

“Just for you Lele. I’ll call your mom and Ed.”

“Thanks Luke.”

“Hey Aunt Jan,” I say quickly as she picks up the phone.

“Hi Luke. What’s up?”

“Well, Leigha was drinking last night and I picked her up. She’s really sick this morning. Can she stay home from school? I’ll stay with her.”

“Well if it was anyone other than you it would be a no, but I guess she can stay. I’ll call her in,” Aunt Jan agrees.

“Thanks Aunt Jan.”

“No problem Luke. Are you back together?”

“Not yet.”

“Make it happen Luke.” I roll my eyes.

“Bye Aunt Jan.”

“Bye Luke.”

I dial the school office. Ed picks up. “What’s up Luke?”

“I have a very bad headache and I don't think I can come in today.”

“Oh ok Luke. Feel better.”

“Thanks Ed. Have a great day.”

“Yup you too.”

I run to the store and grabbed 2 Vanilla Cokes, which are Leigha’s favorite and some cheesy popcorn. I come home to find Leigha sprawled out on my sofa bed. “Make yourself at home.”

“Too late I already did,” she says smiling up at me. I sit down next to her and pulled the blankets off her. “Ugh Luke! I was comfy.”

“Now I am. Thanks Lee!”

“Asshole. Give them back,”  she says yanking the blankets off me and pushing me onto the floor.

“You're going to get it!” She jumps off the bed and runs up the stairs. I run after her and watch as she trips on the top step. She face plants the ground at the top of the stairs. I laugh when I hear her laughing. “You ok?”

“I’m such a clutz,” she says as I pulled her to her feet. She leans in and then I hear the door open.

“Lucas, Janey texted me and said you were sick. Are you ok honey?” My mom yelled. I push Leigha into my closet, but she stops me first to kiss my cheek. I mentally thank myself for changing into my sweatpants and t shirt. I could totally fake sick.

“Mom, I’m fine it was just a headache.”

“Oh just a headache. That explains the lipgloss sparkles on your cheek,” she said wiping my cheek.

“I’m gonna get her,” I mumble.

“Get who honey?”

“No one ma.”
