I spent a long time getting a good grasp on the concept of what "zikr" actually means. You may proceed to make a list and go through the mechanics of all the rituals. The other way is to do away with the words "ritual", "recitation" and the like. Do you recite a supplication? Do you recite Quran? Do you recite prayer? Well...you establish prayer. You make supplication. You read Quran. You think Quran. You live Quran!
I like the word "establish", to the extent that I even use it for supplications. "I established du'a." Does that make sense to you?
