Learning how to cook

So, I'm learning how to cook nowadays. Real chopping-up-onions-and-garlic kind of stuff. The thing is, my mother, who supervises me and guides me, isn't good at telling me the exact quantities of ingredients in the recipes. That's because she has been cooking freestyle--I mean, from experience, for years. I can't cook freestyle; the only ratios I have down pat are those related to my studies.

I think I'll have to go the Pinterest route or Google up recipes for the quantities. Yeah, I'll do that, and write them down in my cookbook.

All this is very laughable to our mothers and grandmothers but this is how we roll. Now, which recipe should I Google first...?
