Chapter 8:

“Travis! Travis! Wake up man!” I open my eyes to see Rico in the door of my room holding my gun.

“What’s going on?” I say slurred from just waking up.

“The Grimm’s are having a huge attack and they found one of our tunnels, we have to help everyone blow away that tunnel before they reach the pit!” Rico yelled pulling a shirt over his bare chest.

“Is Pete already there?” I asked, not having heard him since last night.

“You tell me. I have no clue were the guy is!” Rico said, strapping on a belt with grenades hooked up on it, along with pistols and tossing me my hoodie.

“Which tunnel?” I ask, remembering what Pete had said about there being hundreds of them.

“Follow me, I know which one. Hurry up!” Rico said getting impatient and tossing my gun towards me and heading out of my doorway into the attic hatch. Tired, I race after him not wanting to be left behind and get lost. I catch up to him and we dash through the tunnels then we hear hissing and I know to be quiet.

“We are going to have to bust the lights out.” Rico whispers to me as we run down the tunnel, punching the candle lights. The hissing getting louder and louder, almost a whirring. I pause and I think I have heard the whirring before. Then I can’t move. I fall to the ground, paralyzed in fear of the loud whirring… I know I have heard it before. Then big green eyes came closer and closer, I see a big shadow and a mouth opens. As the mouth opens I feel something wet drip on my leg… Grimm’s! The saliva, toxic. Quickly I jump into action, ignoring the whirring. Shooting the eye of the one on top of me. Running down the hill, towards were I think Rico went. Turning a corner I dash through a door slamming it behind me. Leaning against the door, I pant thinking why would Rico lead me into a tunnel with Grimm’s into it. Why would he do that? I start heading away from the door, then I turn around and shoot the top of the roof and sides of the tunnel in front of the door remembering what Pete and Rico had said about not letting the Grimm’s to the pit. After successfully blocking the tunnel, I walk on, trying to find the pit ignoring my leg that is making a trail of blood across the ground. I finally find it and by now I am hopping on the leg, the pain too much to bear. I find a guy who shows me where to go and I end up in the hospital… again…great. This time I only had to stay for about 20 min. He gave me a shot and wrapped up my leg around my calf. Then he sent me out the door and I sat on a bench in the pit. As I sat there I look around for Rico and Pete. I don’t see them… there are so many people. GINGER! Where is Ginger? I run around asking strangers if the orphanage showed up, no one knew. I had to get her! I ask a man sitting on a bench, roughly in his 40’s how to get to the City and pointed to a tunnel. I run through the tunnel, fast as I could, finally I make it through the tunnel and emerge through a hole on a street corner of the City. Right in front of the gun shop. Ok I think, I know how to get from the orphanage from here. I take off running again. The gun strapped to my shoulder. Then gun shots, from ahead. Quickly I get my gun ready, putting my hood lower over my face. Then I see a boy. He was maybe 10, screaming;

“Mommy! Mom, where are you?” The boy said, terrified. I run to him, grab his arm and run. Then the boy looks at me and grimaces, and then I see his green eyes.

“Grimm!” I scream as the boy transformed into a rat-like creature. I shoot at him, still yelling. Then I see a whole bunch of them cornering someone… A little girl… GINGER!

“GINGER!” I yell, hoping she would here. She lifted her head as I shot at the Grimm’s surrounding her.

“Travis! Travis I’m scared!” she screamed back.

“Don’t worry bud, they are just funny looking!” I say, trying to calm her down. It works and she giggles as I shoot the last of them. She runs to me and jumps into my arms, giggling.

“Ok we have to get outta here ok? I think more Grimm’s are coming.” I say to Ginger putting her down. Then the whirring again.

“Cover your ears!” I tell Ginger, and she obeys. I guide her over next to a wall and sit her down as I walk down the street a little, peek over a corner, and that was when I saw them. Grimm’s, a whole swarm of them, is running towards us. I run to Ginger and grab her hand and run, in no planned route. Just running for our lives.
