Pounding. With your head pounding you woke up yet from another nightmare. All your life you've had either nightmares or dreams with people you have never met before. And after you wake up, you'll wake up with a huge headache and with no recollection of what the dream was about.

Long ago, when you were a child you had found comfort in sleep. It was the only place where you would be able to be free and happy. The only place where you didn't have to be worried. But they were just that, sleep and dreams.

Taking a deep breath as you sat up, you couldn't help but catch the smell of food. You shut your eyes for a moment and covered your face with your hand.

Despite the smell of food, you didn't find it appetizing and in fact, you found it rather nauseating.  You twisted your head and turned to the window of the room, only to stare at the opaque glass. You couldn't quite see the outside, and you wondered why that window was there if it would be locked all the time.

Letting out a long sigh, you finally stood up and slowly made your way to the dining room. You weren't hungry, but with how food was given you were lucky to eat. Food was given once a day and if you didn't eat now, you wouldn't be able to eat until tomorrow.

By now everyone was awake, rushing to eat too. In the hallway, you stopped and watched as a few girls ran to the dining room. They were young, one of them around 13 and the other 15. They were the new arrivals and you couldn't help but be reminded of the first time you were taken away.

You had been six, but you supposed you were lucky you had not been on sale at that age. But it didn't make it any easier now. Even if you were an adult now, it didn't make it easier having to sell yourself to men.

It could be worse. You reminded yourself.  You could be dead and your sister would have occupied your place instead.  It was your only solace, that she was safe. They knew where she lived and they threatened you of harming her if you didn't cooperate.  Much like others too.

"You okay?" One of the girls asked as she found you lost in thought.

Emi, she was just a few years older than you...And you could also see the exhaustion on her face. The shine, the hope in her eyes was gone as well. They were dull, and if she hadn't been threatened to harm her parents she would have ended her life by now. Most would have ended their lives if the lives of loved ones were not in danger.

Finally, you managed to smile. "Yeah just lost in my thoughts." To convince her that you were okay you closed the distance between the two of you and placed your hand on her shoulder.  "Now come on or the others aren't going to leave anything for us."

She nodded and walked to your side. There was a table in the middle of the dining room. Ten chairs surrounded said table and all of them were occupied except your seats. The other girls were already finished with their food. It wasn't much anyway.

You took your seat and so did Emi and as soon as you sat, a plate was placed in front of you. The food was bland but it helped to ease the hunger. You almost dug into your food with your spoon but stopped as your gaze turned to Emi. She was still waiting for her food but it seemed this time she wouldn't be eating.

She didn't do well last night and this was a form of punishment, to not feed her. With your hand, you pushed your plate towards Emi, the girl's eyes widened, and even pushed the plate back to you. "Eat." You told her, "And I'm not very hungry anyway."

Reluctant she allowed you to place the plate in front of her and she didn't eat right away. She lowered her gaze, guilty mostly. "Thank you..." She whispered and voice trembling. "I promise I'll be good today. "

You smiled at her but before you said anything, you heard the voice of the devil. "You touch that plate and you'll lose that hand." She threatened Emi.

If glares were knives, her body would be bloody on the ground. "She's young Junko." You snapped, "She needs food if you expect her to have energy for tonight."

Her hand flew and almost, almost slapped your face it if wasn't for one of the guards. "Don't make the mistake of damaging her. She's the most requested girl here. Unless you want to hear from Iwao, I suggest ignoring her."

The most requested...Standing up you turned to Emi and encouraged her to eat. And then you left to go back to your room. You sat on the edge of the bed and you glared at the floor. You...You cannot remember how many men had touched your skin with their hands. How many had kissed you and had taken advantage of your body? And all you would do while they took you was to lay there, smile, and pretend you were enjoying it.

That was all you could do because as much as you wanted to hope that one day you'd be set free, you knew the reality.  No one would come and rescue you. Silently you began to sob and allowed your frustration to melt away with the tears. The only way for you to ever be free was death.
