Most people see wolves and run.
This rabid beast, baring teeth,
Just waiting for someone to get close enough for them to latch onto.
Close enough for them to sink their teeth in.

Most people see this beast
They think would love nothing more than to rip your face off.
And in a literal sense, perhaps they would.
Perhaps they would do much worse.

But society doesn't always work in a literal sense.
Society doesn't always make sense;
Doesn't always follow the rules.
In fact, they tend to make them up as they go.

Today's wolves bite, and they scratch,
And they claw at your skin if you get too close.
But they are also fighters, and protectors,
And they protect their own, no matter what.

Today's wolves are both prey and predators.
Both damaged and damaging.
They're forgotten, yet feared.
In fact, most people run away.

I run too
(I'm not ashamed to admit that)
Directly into the line of fire.
After all, it's only a wolf.
