Celia thought a lot about her life, and the things that could have been prevented if she had done things differently. So much had happened, and now that it was all over, she couldn't help but wonder if any of it could have been prevented. Perhaps then Celia wouldn't have been left with all of this residual pain that she'd have to deal with. It felt as though her entire life was a lie, and all of the good moments had now been tainted, because the people in her life weren't who she thought they were. Will, her grandfather, and her parents. How much did she really know about them?

She didn't even know how to begin answering that question.

She tried to remember the good times, she really did, but it was all just...overtaken by the bad stuff. Every time she remembered her grandfather sneaking her ice cream before dinner, she couldn't help but wonder why he couldn't do the same for Rebecca and her brother. Every time that she would remember the euphoric feeling of being deeply in love with Will Rutherford, she was reminded that he would end up betraying her down the road. Stuff like that, it just fucks with your head. Although Celia tried her best not to show it, these people were so important to her at one point, that they had changed the way she looked at herself, even now. Because at one point, their opinions mattered to her.

When Celia was twenty-one, she thought that the best night of her life was when Will Rutherford got down on one knee and told her he didn't want to spend another moment without her. God, she was so naive back then, unaware of the fact that none of it was real. Prior to their engagement, Celia was a mere shadow because she didn't want to risk out shining her boyfriend, because he made her think that she had to. She was quiet and docile because she thought that it would make him love her, even if it made her feel horrible about herself. And then she learned the truth about his intentions, and she realized that she was a fool for thinking her could have ever fallen in love with her.

"How could you?" She  screamed at him, letting the tears flow freely down her cheeks. She swore she felt her heart crack right down the middle just looking at him. She looked at Will, and she didn't see the boy she fell in love with anymore. One night was all it took for years of friendship and love to be gone. She felt nothing for him except hatred. "So, what, this was all just business for you, then? Some fucked up way to make your grandfather love you? Were you that desperate that you would just throw it all away?"

"Celia please," Will pleaded, and the look in his eyes made her contemplate hearing him out, but she was weak for him. She would have done anything he asked of her, but his loyalties lied elsewhere the whole time. "Come on, Monty, just let me explain. Don't give up on us."

"You did that all on your own," Celia snapped, wiping the tears from her cheeks. Tonight was their engagement party, and it was supposed to be a happy night, but he had ruined it. Ruined everything. "Tell me, William, was all of it just one big lie?" If she hadn't overheard the conversation between him and his grandfather, then she might not have ever found out that he was only with her to appease his grandfather. He wanted someone on the inside to let him know about what Alastor planned to do with his business, and what better person to do that than Will?

"Of course not," he reached out to cup her cheeks, and she flinched as she stepped back, but he looked as though he had been struck across the face. "It was real. All of it was real, you have to know that."

"How am I supposed to trust you? This is all just one big game to you, and I'm just another thing you'll use to get what you want." She reached for the ring on her left hand, the very same ring that was tainted by all the secrets he kept and the lies her told. She slid the ring from her finger and practically threw it at him. She was done.
