Chapter 9.

The day the music died.
---------------------------------------

Steven Catwell opened his eye.

Steven to his shock was still alive.

Weak.

Barely able to move.

But alive.

Time had stopped killing him.

Laying on the floor he tried to pull himself up, but felt too weak.

He looked round.

Nobody seemed to be in the huge empty arena.

Then he spotted it.

It was a walker standing by the exit doors.

Just what he needed.

At last thought Steven his luck was changing.

Now all he had to do was get to it.

He crawled slowly across the stage floor.

It felt like forever but eventually he reached the stage stairs.

The drop down those stairs looked huge.

He fought the fear.

Come on Stevie it's just a few bloody steps.

He tried crawling down but he was too weak and lost control . He had to just go with the fall.

At the bottom off the stairs to his surprise nothing was broken.

His luck is definitely changing.

He crawled across the dirt and rubbish left by the stampeding audience stewn all over the floor.
Something caught his eye .

It was a discarded water bottle.

Picking it up his spirit rose to find it half full.

He drank deep.

He rested felt a bit of strength return to his ravaged body.

He also found a discarded box of popcorn.

The bits left at the end.

He shoved them into his mouth.

The salt stung his dried up lips.

But his mind and body craved that salt.

Thirsty he drank again.

His hand fell on something soft.

It turned out to be a "no direction" scarf.

Slowly he tied it around his head over his empty socket.

Feeling stronger he took a deep breath spotted the walker by the exit door and with all his effort crawled towards it.

It seemed to take forever.

Stopping getting weak then going again.

Despite wanting to pass out he made it to the walker.

He was glad to see it was the type that had a seat built into the middle of its frame.

No Stevie, your not done yet.

Got to stand!

He took a deep breath.

Dug deep.

Somehow found the strength to pull himself up onto the seat of the walker.

Then he saw her.
