The three exited the building that they were in, making their way to the building Joel was speaking to them about. It was dark by the time they found it, Joel boosting the girls into the building. Ellie going to open the door as Cassie looked around

"what would you do without us huh" Ellie commented as she held the door open

"by now? Wyoming" Joel shot the girl a look

"oh, yeah" The brunette nodded, shutting the door before realising that Cassie had wandered off, she brushed past Joel as she spoke "walked right into that one"

And when Ellie spotted the girl, she was huddled by a pile of trash. In her hands was something that the other two could see but Cassie seemed rather interested in it

"Cass?" Ellie asked

The blonde span around as she stood up, a lone arrow in her hand

"you know what this means right" The girl waved the object around "somewhere, someone has a bow and i want it"

"yeah well, not tonight. We need rest because were leaving early tomorrow" Joel warned and Cassie's smile fell. The man gave the girl a pointed look that made her throw the arrow back into the pile and join the others. The three then slowly made their way up the stairs of the building.

"were going up forty two flights?" Ellie asked as they made their way into the stairwell

"forty five but no, were going however far i can make it" His comment made the girls laugh a little which, believe him or not, was his intention. A part deep inside of him hated seeing them all pouty. As they made there way up the stairs, ellie started to question Joel, her curiosity getting the best of her

"hey, you know that guy who said he was hurt? How did you know it was an ambush"

"ive been on both sides" The man replied, they had made it a good amount of stairs up and he was out of breath "it was a long time ago, we did what we needed to survive"

"you and Tess?" Cassie asked

"and the people we were with" Joel confirmed "my brother too"

"did you kill innocent people" Ellies question rang through Cassie's ears. She didn't want to know but she already did, people do what they have too to survive. She saw that first hand. They girl didn't want to believe it and she didn't ever want to be in a situation where that would have to happen. There was a long silence that loomed over them after Ellie asked what she did, a silence that confirmed her statement

"c'mon" Joel hurried the girls as he continued walking up the stairs. The teens made brief eye contact, a sad but knowing look in their eyes as they followed behind him. As they reached the highest floor they could go, the trio made their way out of the stairwell and into the hallways. All of them struggling to catch their breath
