"Rex, where's Ahsoka?" General Skywalker demanded through the comm.

Rex glanced at Commander Tano practically bouncing on her feet next to him. "I can't say, sir," He said, desperately pretending she wasn't standing right there, beaming.

General Skywalker made a noise of disbelief. "So she's not with you?"

"...Nope."

"Then where is she!? She's late for her lesson!"

"Like I said, General," He side-eyed Commander Tano, "I have no clue."

"That's not what you said. You said you couldn't say."

Rex sighed. "Is there a difference?"

"I don't know, is there?"

He was saved from having to come up with a respectful reply to that by General Kenobi butting in. "Oh, lighten up, Anakin," He said, "Captain Rex obviously doesn't know."

Right. Because there was no way in hell he knew. None.

General Skywalker sighed but still grumbled, "Fine. If you see her, tell her that if she's not here in five minutes, I'm going to hunt her down and drag her to the Temple whether she likes it or not."

Rex thanked the stars he didn't have to keep lying to his CO and offered a curt "Yes, sir. If I see her at all, she'll know."

"Good man," General Skywalker said, then terminated the comm.

Rex lowered his comm unit to his side and fixed Commander Tano with a glare. She, however, didn't seem to share his unhappiness with lying to the General – She just seemed elated to get out of training.

Rex sighed again and put his hand on his hip. "You know, I could get in a lot of trouble for this."

She snorted and grabbed his arm, tugging him away from the Jedi speeder she'd shown up in. "Nah. You worry too much, we'll be fine."

Rex, resigned, allowed her to pull him out of the hangar without much resistance.

"Didn't he say he was going to hunt you down?" He protested. It was of no use, but he might as well be able to say he tried.

"Not if he can't find me, he won't. And I know one place he'll never look," Commander Tano replied, shooting back a cheeky grin that Rex immediately knew spelled bad things for him.

That was how he found himself on the floor of Kix's office with his vambrace and a half-used bundle of spare string in his lap. Commander Tano was sitting in front of him, holding up his arm.

"There," She said, as she tied a paint-splattered string with two blue beads around his wrist. Grinning, she let go of his arm and allowed him to look at it.

It was... something, that was for sure. The knot she'd tied was certainly tight enough; He doubted they'd be able to get it off even with a lightsaber. The two silka beads were nice, though. Where she'd gotten them, she hadn't said, and there was still blue paint everywhere. Unsurprisingly, she'd insisted on painting them blue herself. There was also yellow, orange, red paint everywhere from when she'd insisted on painting the string herself, too. Yet even in its jumble of non-regulation colors, he couldn't be too mad about not being able to take it off. He didn't remember ever having something handmade like this. It was sweet.

The Commander stuck out her wrist and shook it demandingly. "Me next."

Five more minutes later, Rex was tying a matching, albeit less artfully-painted string around her wrist. The two blue beads and the colors were the same and uncreative, but Rex couldn't seem to get over the fact that she was wearing something he'd made for her, just like he was.

Possibly the best part of it all was how she held her arm up and looked at it with a satisfied smile, like it meant just as much to her as it meant to him. "Thanks, Rex," She said softly.

Rex lifted his arm up to admire her work. "You didn't do too bad yourself, kid."

She leaned forward and bumped her forearm against his. "Now we're matching."

Rex could have wallowed in this understated camaraderie for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, the door opened, and he was fearing for his life instead.

"Ahsoka, where have you been-"

General Skywalker gasped exaggeratedly and stopped mid-sentence. Rex looked up with wide eyes to see him standing in the doorway, one hand clenched over his heart.

"Here. Where else?" Commander Tano scoffed, instead of greeting him.

"Traitors!" He cried. "You lied to me, Rex – How could you?"

Commander Tano snorted. "Get over yourself, Master."

"You're just jealous you didn't get a bracelet," Rex snickered. He and Commander Tano then shook their bracelets in his direction, jostling the beads.

General Skywalker shook his head. "Wow. Wow. Just..." He sniffled, "Wow. My own captain and Padawan betraying me like this... it's too much." Then, he bellowed, "KIX!"

Kix immediately appeared in the doorway beside him, a cup of caf in his hand. "Yes, sir?"

General Skywalker grinned maliciously and crossed his arms. "Tell these two nerfherders to make me a bracelet or I might just die of a broken heart."

Kix smiled conspiratorially and met Rex's eyes. "Well, we wouldn't want that, would we?"

Rex sighed and matched Commander Tano's resigned gaze.
