I'm sorry for the cheesy title I'm out of ideas

Also I'd like to add that I've never written Anidala before but I thought this modern AU was cute and fitting for them

With that being said, ignore the inconsistencies of my writing and enjoy

Anakin had never been to San Diego before, so naturally, he wanted to explore. But he couldn't really do that if he spent all day scrubbing the bathroom tiles over and over again, so the second they docked and he was free to go, he sprinted to the bus stop.

His friends had had the same idea, though, so here he was - crammed into a bus with a bunch of random people, sweaty sailors, and the 4 people he loved most but might die if he had to spend another second with. However, they all felt the same about him, so they avoided him for the time being. And as much as Anakin appreciated the space, he still felt a bit offended.

Standing on the bus was frustrating. He felt every bump in the road and every pothole. Every time they stopped at a stop sign or an intersection, the bus would lurch forward and so would he. It was almost like being on the ship - albeit less violent - and it made him sick to his stomach.

The bus hissed to a stop, and Anakin decided that he needed to get off. He didn't care if he'd have to wander through the city. He didn't care if he'd have to walk all the way back to the ship. Public transportation was overrated and uncomfortable and besides, after 6 years in the Navy, he was good at walking.

He slipped to the front of the bus fairly easily. Nobody else seemed to be getting off here, which made sense considering that anyone would have to walk quite a bit from here to get anywhere worth going. Still, as Anakin moved to step down the steps and onto the sidewalk, he had to stop. Because standing on the sidewalk, stepping forward to get on the bus, was a girl.

And she was beautiful.

She had long, curled brown hair, pulled back into a ponytail to keep her neck cool from the summer heat. A few pale strands still hung loose from her bleached curtain bangs, though, and they curled around her face like a photo frame. She had rosy cheeks and eyes that looked like pools of honey in the sunlight, and in the few blips of a second that he caught them, Anakin couldn't help but think that he was in love.

He stepped aside so that she could get on.

As she walked past him, she held his eyes and smiled at him. "Thank you."

To keep himself from saying anything stupid, he simply nodded in response.

Wow.

After a second more of staring as the girl slid into a seat, he stepped off the bus and out into the hot, humid summer day. As he walked away, he heard the bus doors shut and the steps slide back up. Although after a moment, he heard them open again and the sounds of footsteps quickly approached.

Ahsoka - the youngest girl on the ship, still immature having only joined a few months prior and somehow, already Anakin's second best friend - ran up next to him. "Heyyyyy, Skyguy!" She grinned, and then cocked her head pensively, "Did you really think you'd outrun us?"

"Ahsoka!" A voice yelled from behind them - It seemed Obi-Wan had chased him down as well - "You can't just jump off a bus like that!"

"Sorry, sir! You guys thought the bus was boring too, it's not like I made you follow us!" Ahsoka said, spinning around and showing them her hands before turning back around. She leaned over to whisper to Anakin, "So, what do you say we ditch them and go get Mickey-D's?"

Anakin scoffed. The bus rattled past them, and Anakin swore he saw the pretty lady looking at his group from a window. "I don't think they're gonna let us ditch them, Snips."

"No," Obi-Wan said, appearing on Anakin's left with Officers Cody and Rex beside him, "We won't." Anakin thought this was a bit stupid of them; Why did they suddenly want to be around him? And how come, suddenly, he didn't really mind?

As the others bickered and complained about the heat, Anakin got lost in his thoughts. Soon, all he could think about was her. Her, that girl; her aura, her hair, her cheeks, her eyes. Her silvery voice that he'd only heard for a moment when she'd opened her mouth to thank him. He didn't know how she'd managed to slip into his mind, but she had and he couldn't get her out. Not that he'd actually tried to, though.

She was beautiful, like an angel. In fact, maybe she was an angel.

"Oh look," Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, "Anakin's in love." Ahsoka snickered, and Anakin smacked her in the back of the head.

"Aww, does little Ani have a crush?" Cody teased, and Ahsoka earned herself another smack in the head.

"What was that for?" She winced, rubbing the back of her head.

Anakin shrugged. "The hell if I know."

Ahsoka started whining, but Anakin just drowned her out. He was vaguely aware of the moment when Ahsoka, Rex and Cody started shoving and chasing each other and urging him to join. He couldn't care less about them, though. He was still so distracted by the idea of an angel.

Now, he wasn't a hopeless romantic. Far from it, actually. But he couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, he'd found his soulmate, his love at first sight.

But he didn't even know her name.

He breathed in the scent of the salty ocean air and relaxed. He smiled confidently. He'd find out eventually, one way or another, he knew he would.

Little Fun Fact: This AU is based off of a story my dad told me about how he met his first wife (which is actually really funny because he said she even looked kinda like Padme when they met) (seriously what kinda soulmate shit was that I want some)
