"Don't go Ruby.. Please.." A faint voice called to me. My lungs burned as oxygen filled them and my heart beated uncontrollably.

"That's it! Keep breathing!" A woman encouraged me as I coughed and hacked. My eyes sporadically searched the room as I sat up on the bed and crawled away from the figure that stood over me.

"Stay away!" My hoarse voice said as I crawled away from the figure. I held my hand out in front of me as a shield.

"It's me Ruby! It's Denise!" She explained as my eyesight returned. I squinted my eyes at her until they adjusted.

"Denise?" I panted as I calmed down. Adrenaline pumped through my body as I did my best to calm down. "What happened?"

"I need you to rest and lay down Ruby."

"What happened?" I repeated in a more harsher tone.

"You've experienced a lot of trauma in the past twenty-four hours and you need to rest!"

"What happened to me?!" I snapped at her which caused her to jump.

"You flatlined Ruby." Denise gulped. "You were gone for five minutes!"

My jaw dropped as I stared at her in disbelief, "I-I was dead?"

Denise nodded and smiled sadly at me. "I used the last shot of epinephrine to help bring you back to life!"

"That explains the rush. But why me?" I eyed her with shock as my hand held my chest.

"Daryl threatened to kill me if I didn't use it." Denise averted her gaze. My eyes widened. Daryl, my mind drifted to him. Was he okay?

"Where is he?"

"He-he left." Denise stuttered.

"I need to see him." I went to put weight on my right arm but pain shot through it. "Ouch!"

My left hand reached over and felt the bandages that practically covered my entire upper arm and trailed up over my shoulder, over my collar bone and ended halfway up my neck. Someone had changed me out of my other clothes and replaced them with a white tank top and black leggings.

"You need to rest Ruby!" Denise walked around to my side and ushered me back under the covers. I reluctantly did as she asked and laid down.

"There you go." Denise adjusted my pillow for me as I stared at the ceiling.

"Am I at least allowed visitors?"

"Not yet. It's best for you to rest!"

"Whatever ya say doc." I forced a smile while Denise asked me if I needed anything else. I asked her for water which she grabbed for me immediately before closing the door. The water felt amazing as it soothed my throat.

Once Denise was out the door and I heard her walk into the kitchen I quietly sat up on the bed, being careful of my arm. I used my left arm to push my bare feet to the floor. Slowly I placed my weight on my feet and used the headboard to steady myself. My legs wobbled at first but I managed to quietly sneak my way out the door. At first I hadn't realized what house I was in but as I opened the door it occurred to me that this was Denises.

Before leaving the room I noticed my fathers necklace on the nightstand. I smiled gratefully as I tip toed over to it and wrapped it around my neck. Being careful of where I stepped I quietly snuck down the stairs but halted when I heard Denise walking by. My eyes widened as I froze. Thankfully Denise hadn't noticed me and walked straight into the bathroom.

I let out a sigh of relief as I snuck out the door and made my way to the street. The sunshine was extremely bright on my eyes which made me stumble as I shaded them with my left hand. Once I was able to somewhat see I walked down the street towards the groups houses. People slowly started to stop what they were doing and watched me as I continued stumbling my way to Daryls and my house.
