A Second Chance

chapter five

I was sleeping, until a small pebble hit my face. I immediately woke up.

"Get up."

I recognize that voice...

I slowly opened my eyes, "huh, Seung Ho?" I questioned "what're you doing? Hiding around here?" Seung Ho asked, I sat up and rubbed my head. "Got tired after running" he looked around.

"So you fell asleep at some park?" We saw a lady jogging "uh, yeah" I got up "you know you're far from home" Seung Ho pointed out. "How would you know?" "This park is only used by the wealthy people. It's on the other side of town" my jaw dropped.

"So, you should probably start heading home?" He handed my bag "my bag..?" "Yeah, Myung Seouk grabbed it and told me to take it to you since he thinks we're friends" he explained.

"Huh, who?" "The guy I'm with" "oh, the nerdy one?" "No" "the chubby one?" "No" "ohh, the loud one?" "Yes" "why would he think—" he cut me off. "Just go home," Seung Ho started walking off, I scoffed and went the other direction.

I was walking by a few stores until one caught my attention. It had a paper up front, 'HIRING!' I read the paper "must be 16 or older" I smiled, I looked both ways and walked into the shop.

"Hello!" It was a coffee shop. "Oh, hello" I smiled softly "how can we help you?" "I saw the paper in front, and was wondering if I can apply?" I asked "of course! Please take a seat, I'll be right back!" I took a seat and she ran to the back.

A man came from the front, and sat down with me. "Hi, I'm the owner" he seemed expensive. I gulped, "hi, I'm Kim Ji Hyun" I introduced myself "how old are you, Ji Hyun?" He asked me "16 years old" he continued to ask me questions.

"We'll call you to let you know" "thank you" I bowed my head and left.

Applying to a job that's far from home is a little troublesome. But I had to take this chance.

I finally arrived home tiredly taking bus to bus to get home.

"Where were you?" My mom asked me "I was... in study hall" I lied "I can't ever have a good daughter. You or your slutty sister!" She slammed her hands against the table, I jumped a little.

I noticed a bruise on mom's face. Dad probably put his hands on her again.

"I'm... heading to my room now" I walked off while I heard my mom starting to sob quietly, I walked into my room and shut the door.

I started to dream.

"Mommy!" My two children, Eun Ji and Seo Jun. They ran into my arms, I hugged them tightly "we missed you mom!" Seo Jun cried a little, I teared up.

"Where's daddy?" Eun Ji asked, "he..." I turned around and when I looked back Eun Ji and Seo Jun were gone. It became all black around me.

"Seo Jun! Eun Ji!" I screamed out their names "mommy...?" I immediately turned around when I heard Eun Ji's voice and I ran to her, "mommy, I don't feel good" she said bothered. "What's wrong?" I asked worriedly, she started melting.

My eyes widened.

"E-Eun Ji?" I stuttered "mommy, I'm scared. Don't... go" she melted away "mom!" I heard Seo Jin's voice and I saw him melting away too, he reached out for me "why?" I started crying.

I immediately sat up, breathing heavily and sweating. I gulped, I looked outside the window, it was dark outside and I didn't hear anything around the house.

I slipped my shoes on and secretly left. I took a long walk.

My children...

I looked at the stars. Admiring them, I smiled softly remember that Seo Jun loved astronomy, especially the stars. I raised my hand up and closed it like I was trying to catch the stars.
