I paced inside the warehouse nervously. Suddenly, there was a burst of static, and Sam, Dean and a trapped archangel appeared in the warehouse as well. The angel was clapping inside the ring of holy fire.

"Well played, boys. Well played," he said. "Where'd you get the holy oil?"

"Well, you might say we pulled it out of Sam's ass," Dean smirked.

I raised an eyebrow questioningly, but Sam just shook his head subtly at me.

"Where'd I screw up?" the angel asked.

"You didn't. Nobody gets the jump on Cass like you did," Sam shrugged. "Plus Ellie can see angels' wings even with the vessels."

The angel glanced over at me.

"Mostly it was the way you talked about Armageddon," Dean continued.

"Meaning?"

"Well, call it personal experience, but nobody gets that angry unless they're talking about their own family."

"So which one are you? Grumpy, Sneezy, or Douchey?"

"Gabriel, okay? They call me Gabriel."

"Gabriel?" Sam repeated. "The archangel?"

"Guilty," Gabriel answered.

"Okay, Gabriel," I said. "How does an archangel become a trickster?"

"My own private witness protection. I skipped out of Heaven, had a face transplant, carved out my own little corner of the world. Till you three screwed it up."

"What did Daddy say when you ran off and joined the pagans?" Dean taunted.

"Daddy doesn't say anything about anything," Gabriel snapped.

"Then what happened?" Sam asked. "Why'd you ditch?"

"Do you blame him?" I scoffed. "I mean, his brothers are heavyweight douchenozzles."

"Shut your cakehole," Gabe snarled. "You don't know anything about my family. I love my father, my brothers. Love them. But watching them turn on each other? Tear at each other's throats? I couldn't bear it! Okay? So I left. And now it's happening all over again."

"Then help us stop it."

"It can't be stopped."

"You wanna see the end of the world?"

"I want it to be over! I have to sit back and watch my own brothers kill each other thanks to you two! Heaven, Hell, I don't care who wins, I just want it to be over."

Again, I noticed how Gabriel purposefully left me out. I knew it was most likely because I wasn't part of the fight, I was just the reward for the winner. Thinking about it, I was the only one who had a guarantee of surviving past the showdown.

"It doesn't have to be like that," Sam tried reasoning with the archangel. "There has to be some way to, to pull the plug."

Gabriel laughed at that.

"You do not know my family. What you guys call the apocalypse, I used to call Sunday dinner. That's why there's no stopping this, because this isn't about a war. It's about two brothers who loved each other and betrayed each other. You'd think you'd be able to relate."

"What are you talking about?"

"You sorry sons of bitches. Why do you think you two are the vessels? Think about it. Michael, the big brother, loyal to an absent father, and Lucifer, the little brother, rebellious to Daddy's plan. You were born to this, boys. It's your destiny! It was always you! As it is in Heaven, so it must be on Earth. One brother has to kill the other."

"What the hell are you saying?" Dean demanded.

"Why do you think I've taken such an interest in you?" Gabe asked. "Because from the moment Dad flipped on the lights, we knew it was all gonna end with you. Always."

There was a long pause, and I looked over at Sam and Dean, who both looked down and then at each other.

"No. That's not gonna happen," Dean shook his head.

"I'm sorry. But it is," Gabriel sighed. "Guys. I wish this were a TV show. Easy answers, endings all wrapped up in a bow... but this is real, and it's gonna end bloody for all of us. Well, except Ecclesia. That's just how it's gotta be."

There was another pause following Gabriel's speech.

"So. Boys. Now what? We stare at each other for the rest of eternity?"

"Well, first of all, you're gonna bring Cass back from wherever you stashed him," I piped up.

"Oh am I?" Gabriel raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Dean agreed. "Or we're gonna dunk you in some holy oil and deep-fry ourselves an archangel."

Gabe snapped his fingers, Cass appearing next to me.

"Cass, you okay?" I inquired.

"I'm fine. Hello, Gabriel."

"Hey, bro. How's the search for Daddy going? Let me guess. Awful."

Cass glared at his brother.

"Okay, we're out of here," Dean announced. "Come on, Sam. Ellie."

The elder Winchester turned and began to walk away.

"Uh. Okay. Guys?" Gabe called.

Sam turned, following his brother toward the door, me close behind.

"So, so what? Huh?" Gabe continued.

Castiel also joined us as we made our way out.

"You're just gonna, you're gonna leave me here forever?"

Dean paused, turning back to face the archangel.

"No. We're not, cause we don't screw with people the way you do. And for the record? This isn't about some prize fight between your brothers or some destiny that can't be stopped. This is about you being too afraid to stand up to your family."

He pulled the fire alarm, and Gabriel looked up as the sprinkler system was activated.

"Don't say I never did anything for you," Dean told him.

Gabe glared as we all filed out, first Dean, then Sam, then me with Cass in the rear. Cass hung back while we all piled into the Impala and drove away.

We got a text from Chuck saying he had something urgent to tell us, so we booked it as fast as we could to the hotel where he was staying. Turned out, it had been Becky on Chuck's phone tricking us into seeing the first ever Supernatural convention based on the books. There were fans dressed up as different characters, mostly Sam, Dean and I, but there were some others, too. Turned out, there was a real haunting at the hotel, so with the help of a fake Sam, Dean, and Ellie, we took care of it while Chuck kept the rest of the fans placated.

Before we left, Sam had a chat with Chuck and Becky. Dean and I were waiting by the Impala when he walked back over.

"You okay?" I asked Dean.

"Yeah, you know? I think I'm good."

"Guys, you're not going to believe it, but I got a lead on the Colt," Sam announced.

"What?" I asked.

"Long story, I'll tell you on the way?"

"What are we waiting for?" Dean smiled.

We all climbed into the car, taking off once more.
