Shotaro woke up on the morning of Sungchan's birthday feeling more dejected that usual.

It wasn't like he wanted to concern the younger, though. It was his birthday, after all. Shotaro pulled himself out of bed to make him some breakfast.

This year, Sungchan had said that he just wanted to spend the day with Shotaro, and that was it. His actual celebration with his friends was scheduled for the next day (where the presents and cake would be), and Shotaro was hoping that he wouldn't feel like actual shit then.

He made cinnamon French toast and some eggs, deeming that to be easy for him and a good meal, placing it on a tray along with a glass of water. Sungchan's birthday had ended up falling on a Monday, which meant Shotaro wouldn't be seeing the younger, so this was the most he could do for the morning.

When Shotaro arrived back in the bedroom, Sungchan was already awake. "Happy birthday, Sungchannie!"

"Oh, Taro," Sungchan immedaitely smiled, accepting the tray of food. "You really didn't have to."

"Of course I did." Shotaro ruffled the younger's hair, smiling as he settled in next to him. He seemed to be getting better at hiding how he was feeling.

Sungchan took a bite of the toast, humming in satisfaction. "Delicious. I'm so sad I can't just stay home with you today."

"I know," Shotaro sighed in response. "At least we have tonight."

"At least." The younger smiled at the older soothingly before he continued eating.

Shotaro decided to go on another walk when he had the time later in the day, walking in the opposite direction than he usually went. If he went his normal route, then he'd think about meeting Jaehyun, which would lead to thinking about the interaction, then Lili, and then children.

He ended up not enjoying the walk as much as he could have, mainly because he was definitely thinking about children, if not before. It was a pretty distracting thought, which left Shotaro to turn around much sooner than he had expected to.

When he arrived home, Sungchan was already there, seated at the kitchen island. "Taro!"

"Sungchannie." A smile formed on Shotaro's face when their eyes met. At least that hadn't changed. "I was just out for a walk."

"Was it nice?" There was an oddly high amount of concern on Sungchan's face, so Shotaro figured that it would go away if he smiled and pretended that he was doing alright.

"Oh, yeah. I've really been learning to appreciate nature ever since the trip to the lotus garden." Somewhat a lie, somewhat the truth. Shotaro was really hoping that Sungchan wouldn't be able to see through him. "So, um, what do you want to do now?"

"Nothing, really," Sungchan replied, but his brows stayed furrowed in a way that told Shotaro he hadn't quite moved on from the previous topic of conversation. "I didn't assign any homework recently, and there aren't any tests, so I have no marking to do." He looked up hopefully at Shotaro, the fold between his eyebrows finally gone. "What if we watched–"

"–Lemonade Mouth?" Shotaro smiled to himself, now thinking about the projector he'd gotten his husband. "Sure."
