Chapter 16: The City

(V's POV)

"Kai look for supplies inside that store first, ako na bahala sa gas." I pointed my finger to the store not far away from the gas station na gusto kung puntahan at mapagkunan ng gas para sa sasakyan namin. 

Kai nodded before walking cautiously to the store. "Mag-ingat ka po ate." habilin pa nito sakin. 

"You should be the one to be careful kid." I playfully said bago pa ito tinalikuran at nagpunta na sa pakay ko.

"Ate stop calling me a kid..." narinig ko pa ang complain nito at napatawa nalang ako ng mahina.

The roads on the streets were quite empty at wala ka ni isang taong makikita na naglalakad except for the...

"Greuughhh.." 

Zombies... 

What would you expect.

Lumingon agad ako sa pinaggalingan ng boses at nakita ko dun ang isang lalaki na nakasuot ng uniform para sa workers ng gas station na to. His face was disfigured at nakalabas pa ang mga laman loob nito. 

Disgusting.

Agad akong kumilos, with a simple move of my feet narating ko agad ang kinaroroonan nito ng hindi man lang pinagpapawisan. I grabbed the katana that hunged on my back and with much force swung it towards the zombie. Beheading it effortlessly. Gumulong ang ulo nito sa sahig at ang kaunting dugo nito ay tumalsik sa mukha ko. 

"The heck, I just cleaned myself earlier. These monsters should have no blood by now, tsk anlagkit." I complained to myself at pinunasan ito using the back of my hand. Binalik ko naman sa lalagyan ang katana ko at naglakad na uli palapit sa may gas bitbit ang dalawang malaking galon na paglalagyan ko. 

I quietly loaded gas to the container to avoid attracting anymore zombie. 

I can easily kill those weak shits pero andumi nila at nakakasuka mga pagmumukha kaya as much as possible ayoko madumihan ang bagong damit na kakalaba ko pa lang. 

It's already been a week since nagising ako at nakasama si Kai. But within those time frame, wala pa akong isang taong normal na nakasalamuha. We've traveled to the city for the third time today already. First was retrieving my katana and a bag full of guns and ammo na nahanap namin malapit lang sa bato kung saan una akong gumising. 

Second ay yung nagpunta kami sa malapit na zoo, honestly it was kinda terrifying to do pero we hunted the animals there and imprisoned some to safety para hindi sila makain ng mga zombies. The animal we hunted became my food source. We draw the blood out and store it in a mini cooler that was powered by a small solar power na madadala lang namin sa sasakyan. Though the meat was so hard to store because they spoil easily at wala nang kuryente sa syudad kaya wala na kaming mapaglalagyan sa mga karneng hilaw, they won't fit in the cooler kaya we prioritized the blood. I can eat cooked meat basta medium rare lang sya o kaya hilaw hilaw pa. But certainly food like that won't last for a lifetime. So looking for an alternative, blood was the next thing me and Kai could think of. Truthfully ideya talaga ni Kai na subukang ipainom sakin ang dugo and it was quite effective. I could last for atleast 3 days without food with only a bag of blood, pretty convenient and cost less. Pero hindi din namin sinasayang ang mga karneng hilaw. I discovered that even if I couldn't eat other food, I could still eat cook meat which means, pwede din ako makakain ng jerky. Meat jerky to be exact. It won't spoil easily and easy to store. I learned this thing because of Kai. That kid really is intelligent. Yun din ata ang naapektuhan sa kanya nung natamaan sya ng virus.
