Chapter 2: There's Always A Bigger Fish

As everyone left class, Suzune, who strolled next to Kiyotaka as they made their way to a convenience store, was still in shock at what happened in the classroom. She had no idea he can fight, and not only that, but his observational skills that he used to spot the four cameras in the classroom indicate that he's extremely intelligent.

But to what extent? She couldn't help but wonder...

'Maybe he's my ticket to Class A?' She shook her head. 'No. Even if he would be of great help, it's up to me and the rest of the class to make it happen. I can't grow dependent on someone like Ayanokouji-kun, who is possibly superior to me. After all, I want to be friends with him, not use him for a selfish wish... But how do I convey that wish to him?'

"Is something wrong?" Kiyotaka broke her out of her thoughts.

"... Ayanokouji-kun..."

"Hm?" He sensed some hesitance from her.

'What if he thinks I'm just being desperate or clingy? I don't want that. I genuinely want to be his friend.' Suzune sighed. "... How do I tell someone that I want to be friends with them?"

His eyes widen a little. "Good question... What exactly do friends do together?" As if on reflex, he was wondering how a person labeled his friend could be useful to him. It's the exact thought process ingrained into him that he wishes to get rid of but can't, at least at the moment.

"Well, from what I've observed, friends are people who do not necessarily need to do anything together. They simply enjoy their time spent with one another, and their bonds are unbreakable to the point that they keep in contact after graduating because their relationships are built on honesty and trust."

"I see. If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me about the person you wish to be friends with?" They grabbed a few shopping bags and began hunting for groceries.

"Well... They're someone I wish to rely on without making them think that I'm a hindrance or annoyance to their life. They're quite hard to read because they're stoic."

Kiyotaka nodded, knowing she's talking about him. "... And what if I were to tell you that that person is emotionless and sees others as nothing but tools to win, even those close to him? Would you be scared of him, see him as disgusting, and want nothing to do with him? Or would you persist in chasing after a relationship on good terms?"

Horikita answered without hesitation, "I would still persist. As long as that person, who sees me as a tool, doesn't badly hurt me, then I would still pursue them."

He turned and gaped at her before he continued shopping. "I see. That's good. Keep at it, then." Unbeknownst to the two, the corners of his lips tugged upwards into a very small smile. 'Maybe, this girl really can change me. It seems my choice to be in the same class as her might pay off.'

Suzune sensed a happy aura oozing from him, and with his words of encouragement, she couldn't help but grin a little.
