Chapter 28: Maybe not all of you...

Without a second's thought, you leap out into the air.

You angle your body towards Krel as you try and catch up, wind whistling in your ears.

The ground grows closer and closer as you level with him and stretch out your hand.

He hesitates for a second before grabbing it, and you open your wings, catching the air and slowing you both down like a parachute.

These wings aren't meant for two, however, and you both crash down through the thick trees.

The branches slow you slightly.

Slightly.

You sit up, rubbing your head.

That... didn't hurt as much as you thought it would.

You stand and look around.

Krel lies spread-eagled on the ground, groaning.

He grumbles something about hating trees, and stands up.

He looks at you confusedly.

"Why... I thought you hated us?"

You... ugh... you do..

"I... do..."

"Then why did you save me?", he questions, raising an eyebrow in confusion.

"Because... maybe I don't hate... all of you..."

He reddens slightly.

You're interrupted as the massive ship crashes to the ground nearby, just out of your sight.

Krel turns, and sprints towards it.

You linger on the edge of the clearing as he runs over.

The big one asks him a question, and he turns towards where you are with a grin, pointing.

But you're long gone, into the night sky.

The moon is setting as you land in Jim's backyard.

Toby's there, and you look away.

He stops you as you try to step through the back door.

"Listen.. .uh...", he mumbles slightly.

"I'm sorry.", you both blurt out at the same time.

You chuckle.

"No seriously. I'm sorry. I know you where trying to keep me safe. I understand that."

"And I know you where-"

He's silenced as you grab him and hug him fiercely.

Jim peeks his head around the side of the door and crosses his arms in mock-indignation.

"Do I not get a hug?"

"Get over here, drama queen.", you say, rolling your eyes and pulling him over to join.

A moment later, Claire is there, hovering awkwardly in the doorway.

You sigh, and yank her over by her arm.

"You too, Juliet."

And the sun begins to rise on Arcadia.
