"Looking for these, (Y/n)?"

She knew?

How?

You narrow your eyes and scan them around the room.

She must have agents posted on all the exits.

You are so stupid.

This is clearly a trap.

No sensible military base would let someone enter so easily.

You are so, so stupid.

Of course she knows.

How could she not?

You bare your sharp teeth and continue scanning the room for an escape route.

You've seen what they do to things in here.

Ah.

There.

A small shuttered window right above her head, which she doesn't seem to see.

Perfect.

Now to get past the Colonel.

"You must know you won't escape, (Y/n)."

We'll see about that.

You launch into the air, your wings knocking several cabinets over in the process, and sending papers and files flying.

Kubritz draws a neurometer and begins firing at your fast moving form, while your tail slashes forward, knocking the weapon from her hands, and sending her to the ground.

It leaves a deep scratch across her forearm and she grimaces, dropping the files.

You manage to grab two.

You spin, tenting your wings over your head as you crash through the window and slam the shutters open with a bang.

The sound of charging neurometers spurs you forward into the night sky, leaving the compound behind.

You can see the green flashes in your peripheral vision, but you keep going forwards, over the forest.

You're still adjusting to the use of the two wings attached to your shoulder blades, however.

Not well enough adjusted, it seems, as you forget to flap the left one, and plummet to the ground.

The trees break your fall slightly.

Slightly.

You hit the ground with a loud thump, and startle a few birds out of their nests.

Wow.

You survived.

That's a surprise.

Grimacing, you raise your head and sit up.

Something small falls to the ground nearby.

Oh.

The files.

Well, only two of them, since you left the third.

Well, here goes nothing.

You pick the first one up and lean against a nearby tree.

It's labelled 'Jason Benítez'.

Dad.

The paper crinkles slightly as you open it and scan the contents.

A slightly burned I.D.

Two pictures.

And a note.

You pocket the I.D. and look  at the pictures.

The first one is the father you remember, and it looks like the picture was taken for a driver's license.

The second... is a low, blurry angle of a purple, stony creature, thin and covered in some kind of armour you can't really make out or recognize.

Your father and the creature... must be the same.

You look down at your stone arm.

Yep.

Same shade of purple and everything.

Wait.

You do recognize the armour.

It's the same as the armour in Eli's picture.

Of Jim.

What is going on here??

The note is just... a list of all the locations he had visited in all the years up to the car crash.

Why where they...

Never mind.

You have to keep looking.

There must be answers somewhere.

You're severely lacking in that department.

Moving on to the next one.

It's labelled 'Vera Skade'.

As you begin to open it, you hear the crack of a small twig breaking behind you.

You turn quickly, assuming a defensive stance, and scan the trees.

A figure steps forward.

It's strange...

It looks familiar...

No...

It couldn't be.

.

.

.

.

"Jim?"
