Chapter C

"Mom. Is the papers still not done yet?" I asked her as I entered the kitchen.

It has been almost a month since Kathy went to God knows where. After I got out of the hospital, my Mom asked me to stay here in our house for the mean time.

Yeah, I'm grounded. A 24-years-old guy is grounded.

Dad even asked me to take a leave off work since I've been stressed. My parents are protective, period.

She was preparing dinner. "Almost sweetie. Maybe in less than a week, Angela Kate will be a Montefalco. May hangover ka pa?" She said and smiled.

I smiled in return and shook my head. Or at least I tried to smile.

Since they didn't want me to look for Kathy myself, all I can do here is drink. And drink. And drink.

Last week, I told her I want to adopt Angela Kate, legally. I told her to use every damn connection our family have. Mom and I visit her almost every other day since last week, and she's stoked that I will finally adopt her.

The thing is, she was looking for Kathy and I don't know how to answer her question. Because I, myself, don't know where she is up to now.

She surely is very good in hiding. Even the best private investigator can't seem to find her.

But that doesn't mean I'll stop looking for her. No. Not ever.

My phone rang. It was Mich. "Hello?" I said.

I heard her sigh. "Free ka ba ngayon? May kailangan akong sabihin sayo." She told me.

I don't know why but I felt my body stiffened. There's something in the way she speaks that makes me quiver.

"I'll fetch you in your office." I said before ending the call, not even waiting for her to speak.

"Mom I have to go somewhere." I said as I grabbed my car keys and went outside.

When I reached her office, she was already outside. She was wearing this serious face that makes me more nervous.

I opened the window. "Hop in." I told her. I didn't bother going pot since Im still on my pambahay attire. Im still on my basketball shorts and white tee.

She immediately entered the shotgun seat. I want her to transfer at the back but Im too preoccupied thinking what would she tell me.

"What is it?" I told her.

She shook her head. "Magdrive ka muna. Sa bahay nalang tayo magusap."

She looks like she was in deep thought during our ride. When I stopped in front of her house, she looked at me, teary eyed.
