Doesn't Matter Where You Are in the World

While talking to Mr. Economist, I reflected on why I was in China.  I felt that if I was in China, I would be able to capture the success I’ve been seeking all this time.

Successes happen as a result of many years of labour, to think that one could obtain a massive company in a blink of an eye is foolish. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world.  If you lack discipline and don’t take advantage of the opportunities presented to you, success will not be found.

Lack of discipline is a barrier to success; if you don’t have discipline, the barrier to success can be summed up as daily mistakes, repeated over the course of your entire life.  Many of us don’t even realize that we make mistakes daily and we don’t take the action to correct them. This is how success eludes you; you spend your entire life making mistakes instead of making disciplines. Success itself is also quite simple: it's just the collection of disciplines that you practice daily.

I was introduced to this concept of success by the author Jim Rohn, in Live Your Best Life.  Another concept is not blaming the situation in which you find yourself.  For the longest time, I blamed the slow pace of Canada for the lack of innovation.  I blamed the high tax rate for talent leaving the country.  I soon came to realize this was childish.  I needed to make use of these "unfavourable" circumstances.  Now I am thankful for the slow pace, and for the great work-life balance.  As for talent leaving, it’s no big deal because there is plenty of talent here to make things happen.
