The next day, April 2, we went to view another company and I went to the LoyalPlus office where Mr. Princeton allowed me to attend the meeting, which was for Hong Kong Organic Waste Reclamation Company (HKOWRC), also known as ReFoodAble. What they do is take the food waste from large fast food chains like Maxim restaurants and produce useful goods. Food chains like Maxim restaurants throw away hundreds of tons of food waste yearly. This waste ends up in landfills, which are mostly full in Hong Kong; 13 of the 16 available landfills are full as of this writing. ReFoodAble is able to collect about half a ton of waste daily, and generate about 10,000 HK a month from collecting waste from restaurants. This amount of money only covers transportation; ReFoodAble's idea was to take this waste and convert it into something useful—organic fertilizer, pig feed, biodegradable containers, and various cleaning or oil agents. What makes ReFoodAble interesting is that it's not a charity. It is known as a Social Enterprise. ReFoodAble's goal is to handle all the food waste in Hong Kong.
