FIFTEENTH INSTALMENT

Well here it is my first date.

Before Mum agreed to my first date she had to meet Dan. She also wanted my friend Pam to go along with me which wasn't a problem as her boyfriend was good friends with Dan.

I could see Dan was very nervous when he met my Mum. My mum stands at a height of 4 foot nine inches and Dan was at least 6 foot but my Mum can be very intimidating. She read him the rules and made him promise to get me home no later than 11pm. We were to go straight to the movies and return straight home.

The night of my first date started with Pam arriving at my house (she was staying the night). Wow the excitement was in the air. Mum just smiled as she looked in through my door at me getting ready and putting my makeup on. I think she had a tear in her eye and I can only imagine that she was thinking my baby girl is growing up.

We were ready extra early so Pam and I just sat listening to music until the boys arrive. Because Dan was 18 he had his P Plates and he was driving us.

A car pulled up in our driveway and we giggled. We went to go outside and Mum said

"sit down and let them come to the door, if they are gentlemen that is what they will do". She was right Dan and Pam's partner knocked on our glass door and mum opened it. Mum quietly said

"Emily, Dan is here to pick you up" as if we didn't notice they were here. We got up and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I was so excited my heart was racing and I must have been blushing. Dan stood there staring at me as he had only ever seen me in my school uniform before this. I was wearing a short black dress that hugged my perfect 15 year old figure. When he finally spoke he said

"you look beautiful" all I could manage to say was

"oh!" Not "thank you" not " you look nice" but "oh!". As we went down the stairs mum stood watching just before we got in to the car mum said

"Dan! Don't forget our talk and no later than 11pm". I was so embarrassed as all I could think is great timing Mum. But she is a mum and this has to be expected but back then wow bad timing.

We starting driving to the cinema which was about an 45minutes away in the next largest town. All the way there Pam and her partner were talking. They were so comfortable together as they had been going out for about 12 months. I kept looking in the passenger side mirror to make sure my makeup and hair were ok.

Dan reached over and grabbed my hand and whispered

"you look so beautiful tonight" my heart skipped a beat and this time I said

"Thank you". We were listening to Guns n roses song patience for most of the way there on repeat.

We finally arrived at the cinemas and to be honest I can't remember what we watched at the movies but I was only pretending to watch anyway because I was so excited about being on my first date and being with Dan that it didn't matter.

Pam and her partner where kissing the whole way through the movie. Dan did not try once. He reached over and put his arm around me and I rested my head on his shoulder. I was so nervous when he first put his arm around me that I jumped in my seat. He must have realized that I was nervous as he didn't try anything else he just kept his arm around me the entire movie.

When the movie had finished as promised to my Mum, Dan drove us home but on the way Pam's partner dared him to drive with no lights on. So Dan switched off the lights and was driving pretty fast. Pam's partner was laughing and tell him to go faster. I didn't want to be a little kid and say anything so for sometime I just sat there and every now and then he would look at me and I would smile. Pam's partner egged Dan on to drive on the wrong side with no lights on, I started to get so scared bit still wouldn't say anything. We were on a highway going up the wrong side of the road with no lights on approaching a hill. Just as we got to the top of the hill I saw headlights. I reached over and tried to grab the wheel and pull it but by this time Dan had already started to pull over in to the left lane (which happened to be the correct lane to be in) not even a second past when the other car flew past us just missing us. I looked at Dan and the terror was on my face and no one could have missed that look. He quickly turned the lights back on and slowed down. He pulled up not far down the road and got out of the car, he came around to my door and open it. He unbuckled my seat belt and grabbed my hands and pulled me out of the car gently. Holding my hand he walked me away from the car. Not far away we stopped and he bent down to look me directly in the eyes and said

"Emily, I am so sorry I did that and that I scared you. I promise never to do that again.

"I didn't know what to say but at that moment I had forgotten what he had done and what nearly happened all I wanted to do was kiss him but I was not going to do it first. Dan pulled me in to his chest and held me. I didn't want it to stop but he then said

"we have to get you home or you will never be let out again". Dan drove us home just before we pulled in to my driveway he turned the lights off so not wake my Mum when he went in to our driveway. He stopped the car and said "

"I had a great time tonight Emily" I replied with

"me too". Then he put his hand on my left cheek and moved in close and just looked in to my eyes and whispered

"you are so beautiful" I didn't have a chance to respond before his lips touched mine.....
