Erid stood at the edge of the window. His wolf had rescinded and he was himself again. He shied against the cold as it immersed his naked body and walked in the room. He thought about his mother and his promise to his people. His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to think. He had no idea why the vamp would want Caith. He knew it was her father who had done the deed but she had no ties to that night when he discovered the coffins. He shrugged his shoulders and picked up one of Caith’s robes. After putting it on he left the house and made his way outside. He tried to get a scent in the air. The air was thick with the night, he walked forward and then his hair bristled at the back of his neck. He almost shifted before something came into view. Dmitry shuffled out of the bushes and then came to him. His clothes were askew and his face reddened, his black hair was in a mess that stuck to his forehead.  “I almost had them, chief,” he said. Erid looked at him and sighed. “I ran smack into the brute as he was running, I tried to lounge at him but he dodged me so fast I didn’t know what hit me,” Dmitry said. Erid looked at him and spoke. “It’s ok Dmitry you tried your best I’ll take it from here. Dmitry eyed him and then stepped back. “What should I tell the guys back in the station?” he asked. Erid shrugged his shoulders. “Tell them I’m on case.” Dmitry nodded and then ran off.

Erid looked at his back and smiled a small smile. He knew Dmitry like a brother. He had come with him to help with the safety of Caith, he was a good kid but sometimes Erid wished he was not around, he feared for his life. He shook his head, got in his car and then drove off to his apartment. He drove quickly and got in. After putting on a jeans and a turtle neck he took some more clothes in his car incase he shifted and the drove off to Caith’s house. He arrived back at the scene of the crime and tried to get a scent. He caught a whiff of the vamp’s aged body mixed with an almost rose scent. “Caith,” he thought. His lips formed a grim line as he sped along the road out of her apartment. He did not know where he was going but that smell called to him. He drove past several intersections and pulled into a parking lot. He gazed out the window and smiled. It was Caith’s old house. The house before she moved to the apartment. “Why would the vamp bring her here?” he thought.

He shrugged at himself and sighed. If he made it to the house the vamp would know it and then he could run. He sank in his seat but then got up. He could not leave Caith with that monster. He sat up straight and then rummaged in the back for an old briefcase. He smiled as he opened it and lifted out a bottle with a screwed on lid. He inhaled the stuff and almost vomited. It was an old gypsy remedy to ward off darkness, his mother told him that it could hide a rabbit in front of a devil’s eye. He dabbed some onto his shirt, rubbed his arms and legs, doused his neck and face and his pants. When he was finished he almost puked. He hoped that remedy could make his scent undetectable to the vamp. He opened his door and silently pushed it in. He then rounded the house and made for the back door. He tried to listen but nothing he could hear. He stumbled and then caught hold of a garden gnome. He placed it on the ground and then tried the door. “Shoot!” he thought. It was locked. He spotted a lamp to the side of the door and smiled. He had seen Caith do this a million times back at her place if only it was there. He lifted it and bingo. The iron key glistened in the moon light. He grabbed it and then tried the door. There was a soft click and then he slowly drew it open. He walked in and stared at his surroundings. He appeared to be in the kitchen. There was dim light on that showed him a small fridge and a clean, counter, a stove and a dining table with chairs stood in the middle. He shook his head and then remembered that the house was rented. He sucked in a breath of air and then made up his mind to get Caith and the residents out as soon as possible. He slowly stepped through the room and then made his way to the door. He swung it open and instantly four pairs of eyes were upon him. He froze.
