I awoke with a splitting headache, my body ached and somehow my hands felt sore. I dragged myself off the bed and stumbled towards the shower. I washed my face and then looked in the mirror. Before me a pallid face looked back with almost bloodless cheeks. I sighed and tried to remember anything from yesterday. I remembered my talk with Dmitry on the rock and then having a beer or was it two? I sighed again and then brushed my teeth took a quick bath and donned a pair of faded denims and a light blue blouse. After taking my purse I made my way to the door. I turned the handle but it resisted. I remembered my key and turned towards the nightstand. It was gone. I fumbled in my purse but it was not there. I frantically pounded on the door and then when no one answered I turned and looked around my room. There was the window. I took three long strides and looked out. There in the driveway was parked Erid’s’ car. I groaned and became angry. Yes I had made up her mind yesterday. I was going home. How could I possibly help in a missing persons’ case. My specialty was typically based on evidence which when I thought about it Erid had given me none.

Before I could turn away I heard a key turning and Erid entered. He smiled ad looked at me. At once all my feelings from yesterday returned. He saw me frowning and came towards me. “What’s wrong my flirty Caith?”He asked. My cheeks became beet but I still retained my frown. “You!” I cried and pointed my finger at him. “I trusted you,” I said and then shook my head. His smile disappeared and then he came in front of me. He lifted my chin and looked into her eyes. “What’s wrong?”He asked. I took a long look at him and then shook my head. “You know perfectly well how could you tell Dmitry about my father, his reputation what do you really believe that he took that stupid artifact!” I said and tried to twist out of his grip. He held on and I caught my breath. He tightened his grip. I tried to look at him but I could not move.

He held me in a vice like grip while I struggled to break free. He turned his eyes on me and I saw something different in them, something wild and free. For another moment I saw a flicker of orange before he recoiled and then his hands withdrew themselves. “I can smell him, the bastard!’ Erid exclaimed. Her eyes shot up and I thought about the man in black. His picture froze in her mind and I took a breath. “Could he possible know but how could he?” my mind screamed. I looked at him and then my voice stuttered. “Who, who is he?” I cried. His eyes graced my face and I could sense something in him, the atmosphere seemed to tense. “I don’t know,” he said and looked out the window. I sighed and knew that he was lying. “Please just tell me what is going on?” I cried. He stared at me as if I was crazy and then shook his head. “Are you ok Caith?” he asked. I stared at him unbelievably. “Don’t you act like I am crazy!” I shouted. After those words were out I looked at the suitcase propped up near to the window and took a deep breath.

“I’m sorry Erid I really don’t know why you brought me here, I don’t think I’ve helped you do anything since I’ve been here,” I muttered. “But you have,” he piped up, “you helped translate the symbols on the walls.” I smiled. “Anyone could have if they spent time looking at it,” I said. “Erid what I’m trying to say is that I think I should go home.” He stared at me and looked as if he was about to say something but then stopped. “I’ll drop you,” he said. “It’s ok,” I said. I remembered his grip on my chin and shivered. “I’m truly sorry Caith please forgive me and allow me to escort you home.” I glanced at him and after a moment nodded.
