The warmth lay against my cheek as I desperately tried to squirm away. My body was crushed against the bed from his body. I wanted to scream but I felt as if I wanted this. The breath travelled down my neck and stopped near my ear. I lay still. “Oh Elisabeth, how long have I waited to see you again, time has finally made us meet,” the sugar coated voice said. I snapped when I heard the name and tried to pull myself from under him. He pushed himself down and I cried out as something nipped my ear. He laughed. “Help...” my muffled voice rang out. He laughed again and pulled me off the bed. I gasped at the force; before I could recover he threw me back so that I was face up on the bed. I screamed in abandon and heard something crash. He looked over his shoulder and smiled. “I see your little mongrel friend has come back, no worries he will be far away before I leave,” he said. I stared at him in shock and then rolled off the bed so that I was on the other side. I reached for the night lamp and threw it at him.  I stared in shock as he dodged it and leapt at me. “No!” I cried. He pressed me against him and smiled.

There was a scuffle up the stairs before the door was kicked down. Erid burst in looking like a literal beast. I stared at him in shock before he lounged at me. I shielded my face and he dropped on top of Ambrogio. I felt myself falling before a sharp pain connected with my head. I tried to cry out but the lights swarm before my eyes and the darkness took me. Erid sneered at the vamp in front of him. He had been looking for him so many years and now, now he could fulfill his promise, his pledge. He stared at the reddened eyes and then reached for his throat. The eyes retracted and Erid felt himself flying. He crashed into the wall and then lay in a heap. Before he could control himself he felt the power sweeping through him. He growled and then thick grey fur bristled through his back and up to his arms. They covered his body in a second skin. He growled and then lounged at the vamp. He lay against him and reached for his throat. The vamp recoiled and pounded him with his iron grip. “Raul, I am a free man...” with those words he kicked Erid off him self. He got up in one svelte motion and stared at Caith who lay unconscious on the floor.

His eyes deepened their hue. “You have kept me in chains for far too long, your people have enslaved me for so many years, now I will lead the life I once had, the life that I always wanted,” with those words he made it to Caith and in barely a minute he had her in his arms. “You cannot take my Elisabeth from me Raul, never.” He jumped on the window sill and then before Erid could lounge at him he was out the window. Erid made to go after him but his legs could not jump the distance. He looked at the shadow as it disappeared and then howled in the night.

Chapter 20 Discovered

Phillip had gotten up early and obtained a pry bar from the department store. He had made his way to the site and was now in front of the boxes. He smiled in glee and tried to open the cover. It would not budge. He looked at the box and sighed. After trying a number of ways to open it, he settled against it and sighed in frustration. He finally pulled the key from his pocket and tried it in the middle of the cover. He turned it and then he pulled his finger back. Something had cut him. He looked at the finger that had dropped blood on the key’s circle. He looked on as the blood ran covering the circle and then he heard a loud click. The cover lifted itself and a mass of fumes leapt into the air. Phillip drew back and waited for it to subside before coming forward. He looked in the box and then gasped. There lay a well preserved man with a jeweled cross tied to his hands. He marveled at the sight and then cut the cross out from the body. He would show it to the museum along with the bodies. He smiled and then remembered the other box. He did the same and more blood oozed from his finger but he was too caught up to care. He wiped his fingers on his pants and then waited as the lid lifted. He stared in shock at the beautiful woman before him.

Her skin was pale but well preserved and she had on a rather torn gown that resembled something an eighteenth century woman would wear. He looked at her entranced and then made it back to the larger box. In it was a rather handsome man with black hair that fell past his shoulders. His clothing also resembled eighteenth century clothing. Phillip noted the ruffled dress shirt and the black tail shirt and pants. He also noted that the man’s clothes seemed more torn than the woman’s’. He searched the boxes but found nothing else. He found a small chain around the woman’s neck with a silver cross on it. He took it off and then put it away with his tools. He looked for some sign of who these seemingly religious people were and found a scratched out message on the side of the box. He looked and saw the words Ambrogio along with some of the encrypted writing on the walls. He smiled and then went over to the woman’s side. There on her box was scratched the words. “Elisabeth.” He looked once more at the two boxes and noted the pale complexions of the well preserved bodies. He smiled that evening before covering the bodies and leaving them in the chamber. He covered the entrance and then left.

As soon as he got to the motel, he called the museum’s curator, Mr. Edgar Finch, and told him about his findings. The curator seemed upset for some reason. He spoke to him and found out that they had discovered an artifact was missing. Phillip became cold instantly. He did not think that they would have found out. He described the key to the curator and then he sighed. “I have it sir,” he said. Mr. Finch almost screamed. He assured him that it was safe but Mr. Edgar was furious. He managed to become calm and then told Phillip to return to the museum as soon as possible. Phillip sighed and then agreed. He lay back after the call and then sighed again. He knew it was his fault but the discovery. His body tingled just thinking about it. He took a hot bath and decided that he was not hungry. He settled in for the night. He managed to fall to sleep not too long after. His dreams were troubled that night. He dreamt about the woman in the box and of laughter from red lips. The woman was wrapped in a dark shadow that was curled around her. He tugged his covers closer. He awoke groggily the next morning and blamed the call to the museum for his restless night. He washed and got dressed before going for his breakfast. He wanted to visit the site one more time that evening before leaving. He shopped around and bought some things for his Caith and then had lunch before going to pack his things. When he was finished it was past 4pm. He took the truck for a fill up before going to the site. It was already getting dark when he got to the site. He took out his tools and a battery lamp and made his way through the chamber one last time. He wanted to remember everything before leaving. He knew that the curator would send other persons to look after the find but still it was him that discovered it. He sighed and reached the boxes, which he now knew were coffins. He held up his lamp and then cried out.
