Disclaimer: school is about to end and im too scared about not getting a diploma, with that much worrying there's no time for me to own greys anatomy

"There's no chance in hell I'm moving there after what I heard last night." I scoffed at Derek as we walked down the lobby. My head was throbbing and I was already on my third cup of coffee today.

"It would be fun." Derek argued but all I could give him was my irritated look.

"Fun?" I raised my eyebrows, rolling my eyes. "It's not fun hearing you and my sister moan all night." I explained as memories of last night flooded in my mind and I tried to vanish them.

"I thought you were okay with us." Derek raised his hands in defence, trying to reason his way out.

"I didn't say that I'm not okay with you guys, I just think that you should maybe take it down a notch, so that people might — you know — sleep?" I raised my eyebrow as Derek hit me lightly in the shoulder. I was about to do the same but his phone rang. I was waiting for him to answer but all he did was hang up and dismiss it, turning back his attention to me.

"Who's that, an angry ex, your mother?" I joked but Derek didn't seem to be in the laughing mood. He stared ahead and started walking faster, soon disappearing in the few. Leaving me alone and confused.

The day went by slowly. Nothing important happened but the only thing I seemed to be thinking about was the phone call Derek had received. Had it really been that bad? So bad that he tried to avoid me and everyone else for the rest of the day?

Soon after, however, my wonderings were disturbed by my little sister pulling me into a supply closet. "Meredith, this isn't Derek." I chuckled as I looked around the stuffed room. Today was not my lucky day because no one seemed to get my jokes at all.

"It's our mother." Meredith whispered and my face immediately changed. For the past few months, I have been visiting her almost every single week. When I went two days ago, everything was alright, she was doing fine. "Did something happened to her?" I assumed the worst.

"She is fine, don't worry." Meredith assured and all my tension seemed to disappear. "But there are problems with the house." Meredith started but I got a page. Looking between her and the pager, I decided that my mother would never question this decision and immediately go for the pager, I should do the same, even if it is her life we were talking about.

"I'm sorry, we'll talk about this later." I quickly murmured and ran off.

After being done with the urgent pager, I went to get lunch. Hoping to catch up with Derek and maybe even talk things over with Meredith.

Derek was happily talking about Richard's progress, how he had opened his eyes today. It seemed that this morning's events were far away from his mind but I couldn't help but bring it up. Something was bugging me to do it.

"I did not want to ask this, but as your best friend-" I started, waiting for Derek's face to changed and for him to get angry, irritated or ran off like he did before. "Who was that phone call you didn't pick up?"

Derek looked like he was debating on what he should say. If he should either lie or tell the truth, at least some of it. "I had a disagreement with this person right before I left New York, it's nothing to worry about, I just haven't moved in from it and I don't want anything to do with that person." Derek went over, his eyes falling down. From the looks of it, this person really did do a number on Derek.

I

"Yes, Richard?" I entered Richard's hospital room with my chart out. Thinking that he needed some help with something or some consultation on how he was doing.

"I wanted to-" he tried to make out but it was hard. "To talk to you about-"

My hand went into my coat and I pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. "You should save your strength and write it down." I suggested but Richard wasn't having it. He placed his hand on top of mine and waited for me to look at him. That's when I knew that it was something important.

"You have been accepted to be an attending for Neurosurgery in Seattle Grace hospital." Richard's sore throat made it hard to understand, and at first I thought that maybe I had heard him wrong, but to my surprise and relief, it was true.

"Really?" a cheerful smile played on my lips and it was clear that Richard couldn't help but to smile himself.

"I heard the news, congratulations!" Meredith congratulated me with hug. Derek came into the view, he was holding a cup of coffee in his hands. He handed it to me and patted me on the back.

"Good job, partner." Derek added and joined in on the hug. I could feel hot tears forming in my eyes. Back in Virginia I didn't have this. This love. This family. It was here where I was truly happy.

"Malia, could I have a word?" After letting go, Derek asked. I nodded and we went a little further away from Meredith.

"Why didn't you tell me about your mother?" He asked. At first I was confused but then I got it, Meredith told him. I knew this would happen soon but I didn't think this soon.

"You know." I mumbled. It wasn't as if I was mad at Meredith or Derek for this. They were a couple and couples tell each other things, I just didn't know if I felt right about him knowing.

"Yes I know. You should've told me." On this Derek was right. I should have. He was my best friend, and being someone's best friend has a rule about honesty.

"I know I should've." I sighed looking at my shoes. Then I looked at him. "Let's do this, after your date with my sister why don't you come down to my house, you need more friends around then just your girlfriend," I told him, he looked like he was thinking.

"Come on, you're having sex with Meredith every night, I need attention from my best friend too!" I begged him, he chuckled.

"Alright." Derek gave up, I smiled and gave him one last hug. "Thank you for understanding me."

It looked like Derek wasn't coming. I had ordered in and everything but it looked like he got a bit heated with Meredith. I wasn't blaming him, but I did want to spend some more time with him.

I was sitting on my bed, eating the Chinese food I ordered when my phone rang. "Tell Derek that it's okay, he doesn't have to come-"

"Malia, please come over." Meredith's voice was cracking and I knew that something was definitely wrong.

"I'll be there in a minute." I told her and hung up. I rushed to my living room and threw my coat on.

"What is it Mer, is everything okay?" I asked her and she opened the doors to the bathroom, one look at her and it was clear that she had been drinking, a lot.

"Derek is married."

Boom! Did you see that? Did you? I gave you cute Malia and Derek scenes and then I crushed them by bringing Addie (who I love and adore) in the picture, I am so evil, muhahaha.
