Everyone had already left for breakfast. Sarah and I sat in the cabin. Anxiously awaiting the results of the pregnancy test she had just taken. I knew deep down that she was pregnant, I had watched my mom experience a lot of the same symptoms.
"I'm so nervous," She says
"I know, but no matter what, just know that I love you and I'm going to be here for you. So are Zack and Luke,"
The timer went off and she picked up the test, tears filled her eyes as my suspicions were confirmed
Pregnant
"What do I do?"
"First thing is, you need to tell Luke,"
"He's going to hate me,"
"If he really loves you, he'll own up to it,"
"I don't know if I can do this,"
"You can do this! do you need me to come with you?"
"No it's better I do it alone,"
She throws the test away in the trash can and leaves the cabin, walking toward the dining hall.
Sarah's POV
"Hey Luke, can I talk to you?" I say. He looks at me confused before getting up and following me outside
"What's up?" he asks
I pull him over to the gazebo and sit down across from him. I broke down into tears, unable to speak
"Sarah? What's wrong?"
"I know you're going to hate me, and if you want to break up with me after I tell you this I'll understand," I managed to choke out
"What's wrong?"
"I'm pregnant,"
His face fell. He came over to me and held me closely "We're going to have to get married as soon as I turn 18 to try and cover it up, I'm not mad at you, I just hope it doesn't get me in trouble and cost me my career,"
"It won't, we'll just have to hide it the best we can,"
"Does anyone know?"
I nod, "Lila does, she was there when I took the test,"
"I'll have to tell Zack, he deserves to know what's going on,"
"I'm scared,"
"I am too, but we'll make it, I promise,"
"That explains why I'm acting so crazy,"
"Lila was right all along,"
"Wait did she mention it to you?"
"Back at the end of school picnic she mentioned it, but said she was joking,"
"She asked me at Graduation, and I laughed it off. I didn't think I was until recently,"
"We'll just keep it quiet for now, We'll go down to the courthouse on September 1 and get married, I want you to have the same last name as me when we have this baby,"
"My due date should be around the beginning of January,"
"Two months after the church plant,"
"I know, I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to happen like this,"
"Sarah, it's not your fault, we'll get through this together, I promise,"
"I guess I should let you go back to finish breakfast,"
"Honestly, I lost my appetite,"
"I did too,"
"You still need to eat a little something,"
"Only if you do too,"
"Fine,"
We walk back to the dining hall and sit down at the table. Zack looked at us curiously but didn't say anything. I knew he had a lot on his mind too. All of our lives were changing for the better
"Everything okay?" he asks
"Yeah, I need to talk to you though after breakfast," Luke says
"What's going on?"
"I'm pregnant," I say quietly
Zack looks shocked, "Are you sure?"
I nod, "Lila saw the test too,"
"We're going to elope on my 18th birthday so we're married before the baby comes,"
"Is this going to affect the church plant?"
"No, it won't, She's due around the beginning of January, I might take one week off, but that's it,"
"We can manage that I think,"
"Do you have everything planned out for the proposal?" I ask, trying to change the subject
"Yeah, I'm nervous, but everything is planned out and it'll be set up tomorrow morning,"
"I can't believe tomorrow is the day,"
"Me either, I just hope Lila doesn't find out, I'm trying not to see her much today or tomorrow, She's good at noticing when something's wrong with me,"
"Speaking of Lila, where is she?" Luke asks
"She's planning the crafts for the day in the craft tent, she's in charge of that for a few days this week,"
"That's right up her alley, I'm glad she's getting the chance to do something she loves,"
"Me too, I thought about stopping by and participating if you guys want to come with me?"
We both nod, "Sounds fun,"
Lila's Pov
I had just finished setting everything up when other kids started to come in, to my surprise, Zack, Luke, and Sarah showed up. I wasn't expecting to see them here, especially since they claim to have the artistic skills of 5-year-olds
"what's the craft today?" Sarah asks
"You can either make bracelets or draw, it's up to you,"
"Bracelets," Zack says, the others nod in agreeance
"Alright here's the supplies you need, I'll come around to check on you in a little bit,"
They take the supplies over to one of the tables and sit down. Once everyone had their necessary supplies, I walked around to check on everyone, When I came to their table, I sat down and watched as they worked
"This was easy," Zack says, holding up his creation. I noticed that he chose to do two different colors, purple and blue, both of our favorite colors
"Good job babe,"
"I made it for you,"
"Aww, thanks Zack,"
"You guys are flirting like children," Sarah says
"Hush," I say
"It's cute, you can see how much he loves you,"
"You're right, I know he loves me, he shows it daily,"
Zack nods, "When you almost lose someone, you realize how much you love them and need them in your life, and so I'm trying to show you daily just how much you mean to me,"
"You're the sweetest Zack, I have to get everything cleaned up and put away, but I'll catch up with you later,"
"I can help if you want,"
"No it's okay, I got it, I'll meet you guys down at the beach if you want,"
They nod, "Sounds good to me,"
I had just turned away to clean up when Grace came into the craft building, "Hey Lila, Sarah i need to talk to you guys real quick,"
She pulls us into the back room where nobody was, and pulls out the box for the pregnancy test that Sarah had thrown in the trash can
"Is this one of yours?" she asks
"It's not mine, we're still waiting," I say
Sarah tears up, "It's mine,"
Grace hugs her tightly, "I thought it might be,"
"I'm sorry, I feel like I'm letting so many people down,"
"Sarah, We don't think of you any less because of it, We still love you,"
"It just happened at the worst possible time, We're only 17, we're going to have to elope the day he turns 18, and we're going to be dealing with this at the start of the church plant,"
"I know, and I promise it'll all work out, I just wanted to confront you before someone else found it and started rumors,"
Sarah hugs her tightly, "Thank you,"
"I won't tell Evan, I want you and Luke to be the ones to do that,"
"We'll have to tell him after I make sure everything's okay first,"
"Let me know if I can help you in any way, I've been through this before, So I know what you're going through and feeling,"
Sarah and Grace walk back to the cabin to talk about her pregnancy while I finished cleaning up. This year was going to be one of the craziest years we have experienced yet. Sarah's pregnancy, the church plant, our wedding, everything was going to be happening soon.
