Clem is Mommy, Violet it Mom. The usual. "Mama" Is cringey, so don't ask why I don't use it. Enjoy.

*Violet's POV*

When we adopted AJ, he was 3.

He came with this blanket and never let go of it.

He can't sleep without it.

But it gets dirty, so sometimes we have to sit here and listen to him cry about it for about 2 hours.

But only during the day.

That's the one rule we don't break.

Only wash his blanket during the day.

We have jobs and take care of a three-year-old.

No one wants to have to deal with him crying at night too.

I said, "Clementine, make sure you put the clothes in the wash at a reasonable time."

What did she do?

Put the clothes in at 11 pm.

Now, there's a 4-year-old about to be SCREAMING his head off about a little blue blanket that he's outgrowing.

"Clem, his lip is trembling. He's about to cry, help him." I tried to catch him before the screeching could start.

Her eyes darted around the room full of toys, looking for something to distract him.

She picked up disco broccoli and waved it in his face; "Hey, Alvin Junior, I'm disco broccoli-"

"MY BLANKET."

"Oh, my fucking... GOD." I rubbed my temples in frustration.

"Violet, go see how much time is on the washing machine. AJ you want a snack?" She smiled at him profoundly.

Well, that's new.

Clem hates giving him late-night snacks.

His crying stopped and turned into hyperventilating.

"I'll take that as a yes. Come on, let's go get your snack baby."

I took that as the go-ahead to check the washer machine.

The only thing was...

I'm not going into the basement alone.

I clicked the light switch, to no avail, the light blew out.

Swallow your fear for fuck's sake, you're 24, what're you afraid of?

The dark?

I'm not even gonna argue with my thoughts.

"CLEM?"

She came darting into the kitchen, AJ on her hip, watching me stare at the top of the steps.

"I thought something was wrong. What do you need?" She gave a somewhat satisfied smile.

"The basement light blew out."

"And?"

"It's dark."

"Okay..."

"I don't like the dark."

"Violet. Our room is literally pitch black right now."

"But a room and a basement are two different things."

"I'll check on the clothes then. I'll leave AJ here for a few minutes."

"He's gonna cry, Clem. Please, no."

"Then pick your punishment."

"That sounded Kinky. I like it."

"VIOLET. Are you gonna check the washer, or are you gonna watch AJ?"

I took a minute to think to myself.

Well, if I go in the basement, it's a possibility I might not come back up because I'll have a heart attack down there.

And if I stay with AJ, my eardrums will suffer immense destruction and I'll be irritated for the night because he literally hates me for no reason.

"I'm... Staying with AJ. I'm in a lose-lose situation."

"Good to know. Feed him some graham crackers while I'm down there." She instructed me, expecting me to be able to follow those simple directions as if she could trust me to be responsible for a child eating somewhat healthy snacks.

Does she know how I ate as a kid?

AJ was innocently clapping his hands, singing a song.

"Mom?" He abruptly stopped and broke his neck to look at me.

"Yes, my love?" I turned around to face him.

"I love you." He sounded as clear as day.

I can just imagine when he grows up.

"I love you too." I kissed his forehead.

I proceeded to the fridge and grabbed some whipped cream and headed back to AJ to reward him for being so damn cute with his little afro.

But I looked out of the kitchen window out of the corner of my eye and saw someone fucking standing there.

What the fuck.

"cLEm" I grabbed AJ out of his car seat and ran into the basement.

WOW.

Now me, my wife and our child are in hell.

"What happened?" She blinded us with her phone flashlight.

"SOMEBODY WAS IN THE WINDOW."

"Violet, you're seeing things." She rolled her eyes as if I was delusional.

A faint knock came from upstairs as if somebody was at the front door.

It's one O'clock in the morning.

It'definitely a murderer.

They won't come down here though.

Nobody likes dark basements.

AJ's lip started to tremble again, but I was able to stop him from crying.

How?

I filled his mouth with whipped cream.

Clem was on the verge of yelling again, but the knock got louder.

"I'm gonna go see who it is." She grew agitated with everything that was going on around her.

"DON'T LEAVE US." I grabbed AJ and ran up the steps behind her.

"Clementine, it's one o'clock in the morning. Don't open the door." I warned her, watching her stand on her tippy toes to look through the peephole.

It was like her hand was moving in slow motion.

When she opened the door, Louis was standing there with a dumb ass smile on his face.

"Hey, Loui." Clem let him in the house, shutting the door behind him.

"Finally, my favorite lesbians and their child. My favorite nephew!" He brought us in for a huge bear hug, making sure to be gentle with AJ.

"I thought you were a murderer." I quietly admitted, feeling quite ashamed.

"Well, I kinda sorta did peek through the window as if I was a stalker. I have no regret and feel no shame."

AJ started crying again.

"Here, let me handle him." Louis took him from me.

He tossed AJ up in the air, making him giggle like never before.

Of course, Clementine almost had a stroke and shit herself when he flew into the air.

When Louis caught him, he got a glare from Clem.

If looks could kill, he'd be dead.

The dryer beeped, meaning that the clothes were ready.

I went to the kitchen and stared at the top of the steps, lost in deep thought.

What if someone fucking snatches me?

I'll never see Clementine or AJ again.

I love life too much to die.

Well, I love Clementine too much to die.

Fuck my life.

Wait, is that a person?

What the hel-

*Louis' POV*

"Hey, Vi, Clem-" I went to put my hand on Violet's shoulder, but she jumped down the stairs.

"VIOLET?" I had to make sure she was alive after that fall.

The only response I got was a scream.

I went to go help her, but she came back up the steps as fast as she fell down and she was hyperventilating.

"I SAW SOMETHING."

I smirk went across my face, I know exactly what's going on.

Violet is scared of basements.

"You're scared of basements, aren't you?" I chuckled, picking her up off of the kitchen floor.

"nO"

"You totally are."

"I'M NOT."

"She is."

"I am."
