(Linked with coming home. Violet has {Insert drumroll} PTSD. Yay.)

That's the song, in case anyone was wondering. ^^^

*Clementine's POV*

Violet's been home for about 10 months now.

She's still adjusting to being here.

What I mean by that is that she'll wake up at 6 am and start her day...

Which she never used to do.

Sometime's she jumps out of her sleep and starts looking for her uniform.

The smallest things get her on edge.

She's still snapping out of living on a base and getting ready for war and...

Being prepared at any given moment.

She's still the same old Violet.

Because she still has anger issues, loves nuggets, has a love-hate relationship with Louis...

Everything is... almost back to normal.

She dropped the 'yes, ma'am' and 'no, ma'am'.

She only says it if she's trying to swoon me over or something.

It's the fourth of July now.

We've got McDonald's, the hood of the car, and some time alone.

The starry sky is amazing.

It always reminds me of our first kiss.

"Babe?" She turned to me with a mouth full of nuggets.

"Yeah?" I replied, snuggling myself onto her chest as we sat on the hood of the car.

"I love you." She kissed the top of my head, wrapping her arm around me tighter.

"I love you too."

"What time do the fireworks start?" She checked her phone.

"They said 8. What time is it?"

"2000 hours, sharp.'

"Uh, standard time please?" I furrowed my eyebrows, clearly confused.

"Oh, shit. Uh... 8 o'clock sharp." She corrected herself.

A ball of sparks shot through the air, followed by a noise almost similar to what I'd imagine a missile would sound like being launched.

Violet jumped at the sudden sound, almost dropping her nuggets.

"You okay?" I took hold of her hand and squeezed it gently.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just... It caught me off guard." She reassured me and gripped my hand.

The fireworks popped into the air.

A colorful ball of red and blue exploded into the sky.

Violet didn't like that.

She jumped again.

"If you're not ready, we can just watch it on tv. It's okay." I looked up at her with a worried expression.

"I'm okay, Clem."

"Vi..."

"I'm fine." She tried to sound as if she wasn't scared.

I let it go and continued to watch the fireworks.

Another hissed through the air, making a high pitched sound that made Violet shake.

"Violet."

"What!" Her voice cracked like she was about to cry.

"I'm- I'm sorry. Yes?" She tried to calm herself down, still shaking.

"What's wrong?" I sat up and looked her in her eyes.

She couldn't bring herself to face me.

"Nothing." She jumped again at the sound of the fireworks blooming.

"You're shaking. We're leaving." I got up and grabbed her hand, pulling her off the car.

Another hiss sound flew through the air and she locked herself onto me.

She held me as tight as she possibly could, shaking and hyperventilating.

I walked her over to her door and got her in the car along with myself.

"Violet?"

No answer, just staring out of the windshield with wide eyes.

I looked down at her hands, her nails were digging into her flesh.

She could still hear the sounds of the fireworks.

I reached up to the front seat and turned the radio on to block out the noises.

"Violet?" I grabbed her hand, not paying attention to what was happening outside.

No answer, still staring out the window with her eyes wide.

I don't even know what's wrong.

Instead of asking what's wrong, I pulled her close to my chest and let her relax her head.

She wrapped her arms around me again and cried.

"Please, don't let go." She choked out, gripping onto my shirt.

"I promise, I won't." I rubbed her back in circles and rested my chin on her head.

"Please. Don't... I'm... Don't let me go."

"I won't. I'm never gonna let go." I held her impossibly close.

"Please..."

I leaned against the door and didn't let her go.

The radio was still playing, her favorite song was on now.

"Vi, listen... This is your favorite song."

"You don't have to be a hero to save the world."

I felt her grip get looser.

"It doesn't make you a narcissist to love yourself."

"It feels like nothing is easy, it'll never be."

Her breathing started to even out.

"That's alright, let it out, talk to me." I sang along with the song and kissed the top of her head.

"You don't have to be a prodigy to be unique."

Her arms found themselves around my waist instead of her hands gripping my shirt.

"You don't have to know what to say, or what to think."

She's crying again... but slowly.

"You don't ever have to be anybody you can't ever be. That's alright, let it out, talk to me."

"Anxiety, tossing, turning in your sleep."

I felt her chuckle a bit before sighing.

"Even if you run away, you still see them in your dreams."

Perfectly describes what she's going through right now.

"It's so dark tonight, but you'll survive, certainly."

"It's alright, come inside, and talk to me."

She sat up and rubbed her red, puffy eyes.

"Let your words release your pain, you and I will share the weight, Growing stronger day by day."

I took both of her hands in mines and sang the song to her.

"You're so cheesy. I love you." She snickered, slowly coming back to me.

"I know. I love you too." I smiled and kissed her forehead.

"Ew, what was that?" She frowned her face, referring to my kiss.

"Love."

"Do it again."
