The night was long and Y/N had a night skift at a small, bit run-down convenient store...
Y/N POV
"Hey, are you gonna be okay to close up?" My boss said as she walks towards the door.
"Yeah doesn't worry, I only got another hour and I have to restock anyways," I said standing behind the cash register. My boss nod as she waves goodbye leaving me alone. Once she left I locked the door behind her because even though it was a full moon I needed this extra hour to get paid. I knew my boss wouldn't notice because she is never here on the night shift and I know nobody comes around here on a full moon. I did have to restock some more drinks. Before I did anything, I pushed down the other caged doors and locked them so I wouldn't have to worry about anyone trying to get in. Finally finishing that and turning the opening sign to closed I start to rub my head, as I went to the back of the store by the freezers to restock. My head was sore from hiding my other ears all day. I was always sore at the end of the day because of that. It was hard hiding myself but because I was around normal people all day I didn't smell like a hybrid at all which was good for me. Even other hybrids couldn't sense me.
As I picked up the cases of water and soda, even though I locked the doors. When it was full moon all hybrids knew to stay inside, humans to if they were smart. With the recent disappearance of many hybrids in the community. It was best to pretend to be human but being a human with no schooling, degree, or birth certificate was hard. The only reason I got this job because this was the bad side of town. Which means not many care to do a background check or a blood test for human verification. The only way a hybrid can live a good life is if they get a good owner and I didn't want to be a pet. So I forced myself to hide my cat ears and tail. Hybrids didn't have rights like regular animals or humans because we were so different and a threat to the humans that see us as unknown. So they rather own us and use us for their benefit.
Namjoon POV
"Namjoon what is it?" Tae said to me as we stood at the edge of the tallest tower observing the bright city that brought so light into the dark night.
"It's a hybrid it reaks of a human and that isn't a good sign, It's just odd the scent comes and goes like it's trying to hide itself. I jumped off the edge of the roof and landed on my feet as my long black wings caught me as the others follow me. When a hybrid has a lingering scent of a human so strong it could mean that the hybrid is either mating or eating... Which on this side of town can only mean a bad outcome but we had to make sure just in case.
"Maybe it's JB again trying to hide," Jin said. JB was a usual terror that like to prey on humans and hybrids. But lately, he hasn't shown himself.
"Maybe. But last time we hurt him pretty badly so it's gonna be a couple of days till he gets his strength again, I think this is someone new or one of his friends," Jimin said as I nod agreeing. It was always a process to getting out hybrids or creatures that were very strong. Some we don't have to harm just enough to get them to stop or leave back to where ever they came from or back to their world. And others we have to kill in order to protect the community.
"We are going to check the East side of the town," Hobi said to me before going any further. I nod agreeing. Jin stayed with me as the others went with Hobi. As the others flew away and disappeared quickly, we walked within shadow to shadow into a very bad part of town.
"I can smell it, it is very strong," Jin whispered to me. I nod agreeing as he shifted fading in and out into the night seeing lights ahead leading us west into a small plaza of stores. We changed back to our human form and started to walk around. looking into the stores that were closed and noticed only one was open because the lights were on.
"This way," I said as Jin followed me as I rushed running through the wall to get inside the store in the back to sneak up on whoever was in there. We had to be cautious. This scent was different new. And with everyone, we dealt with we always remembered smells. As I broke the door nob from the back letting us in front of another door that was unlocked I quietly walk in with Jin and started to hear music in the distance.
Y/N POV
As I let my guard down as my playlist plays on my phone next to me. As I stock the different brands of water in the freezer section and different fruit drinks. I felt somewhat relaxed that I started to daydream I was somewhere else. Getting a notification that my hour is almost done I looked by my side glad I was almost done with this stock.
Suddenly I felt a presence near me and in the corner of my eye, I noticed a shadow. I suddenly jumped facing my back against the freezer turning around dropping the bottle causing a splash of pink soda all over my legs as it fell in front of me. I felt the hair from my tail shiver on my back that was tucked into my shirt. I knew there was someone else there with me. Looking around it was suddenly quiet that even the A/C noise stopped and the small fan by the cash register. It was so quiet that I can hear my heartbeat. Whoever was here, I knew I couldn't run in the front door the only option was the back doors. I didn't move because I knew this thing or things were watching me. I pretend like I just blew it off and turned back around trying to come up with a way to casually walk away enough to run. It wasn't the first time I've been in this situation. and in a hybrid world I was prey but I was fast.
"Damnit!" I said out loud as I looked down and noticed I made a really big mess. If I live through this I will have to pick this mess up ugh! I walk over the box of now broken bottles of soda and grab a towel to dry off my legs. This is good I thought the things are just observing for now. I finish drying my legs off and get my phone pretending I was doing something as I start to casually walk towards the back door. As I did that I suddenly hear a flap and turned seeing these big long wings appear quickly into the reflection of my phone. I froze as I looked at my phone. I knew I had to run, I end up dropping my phone as I quickly run getting close to the back door as I reached to touch the door nob I felt a grab at my waist as my body got pulled back.
"Ah! Please don't! Please don't hurt me! Ahhhhhh!" I screamed trying to pull away as my eyes stayed closed. I put my hands on my head because I didn't want this thing to pull my ears or see my hybrid form. I curled myself into a ball as this thing still had me gripped around my waist. I kept my eyes closed not wanting to see my death. I felt this thing let go of me as I fell back landing on my back still with my hands on my head making sure my cat ears weren't showing. I scooted back putting my knees to my chest covering my face now trapped against the corner.
"Wait-" I heard a man say in a low voice. I froze.
"Wait? It's not any different from those shape-shifting creatures that pretend to be humans," Another man said. I looked up moving my hands seeing two tall men in front of me. Did I see wings I thought? These guys didn't smell like hybrids though. What kind of creatures are these!?
"No, we need to take care of it now!" The one with black hair (Jin) added as he came towards me grabbing my wrist.
"Ah! Stop it!!! I'm not a shapeshifter!" I screamed being jerked forward getting up suddenly now in front of them.
"Jin stop," The other tall man (Namjoon) said making his friend let go of me. As I became free I walked backward hitting the corner again. Suddenly this guy comes towards me and looks into my eyes.
"She not human," He (Namjoon) suddenly said with a small smile. I stayed quiet not knowing what to say. Oh god, these are the things that are killing humans I thought.
"Are you sure she looks human Namjoon?" That other guy (Jin) said now suddenly appearing normal.
"I'm sure, I have never seen another hybrid that has looked so human before," the one with light hair (Namjoon) said.
"We are Namjoon and Jin," Namjoon said trying to be nice. I couldn't speak I just wanted them to leave.
"What are you?" Jin asked walking towards me.
"She not gonna talk we spooked her, I'm sorry miss. I know you can keep a secret," Namjoon said to me tilting his head down to look me in the eye. I nod agreeing so these guys could leave.
"Good," He said suddenly disappearing with Jin. I fell down to my knees gasping for air shocked I'm still alive.
Namjoon POV
As we left the store and watched in the distance of this girl in the store the scent of this hybrid was different.
"Do you think she'll talk?" Jin asked me as we watched her in the shadows.
"No, she wouldn't risk herself," I said as we flew away to meet with the others. This girl was different. I had to know what hybrid she is. As we flew to the east side of town, I knew I had to keep an eye out for this girl.
