At dinner, my dad's eyes barely leave me. He must have realized that something happened on my walk, because I can see the worry back in his eyes. He already knows about me falling into the fire pit, because he saw me come back in my makeshift cover, but I can see he doesn't believe that that's the only thing that happened.
"What happened when you were out there?" he asks, finally speaking his worries. I place my fork down and reach for the cup of blood. I take a sip before answering.
"Nothing, I already told you what happened." He places his own fork down giving me a serious look.
"Something did happen, Scar, I know you," he says. I groan, pushing the plate away from me because of the jumble of nerves in my stomach at what my dad could have found out. I've been feeling off all day as well. It must be as a result of me returning home to the mess.
"It was stupid, and it doesn't matter," I mutter picking the glass back up.
"Everything matters somewhat," he tells me. I roll my eyes shaking my head, knowing he won't give up.
"I saw where Kyle used to live and lashed out," I say with a shrug, "See, it was stupid."
"That's not stupid, that's understandable," he lets me know as he raises his hand waving the servants forward. "Are you finished?" he asks. I nod, placing the now empty glass down on the table. As the servants clear the plates and glasses my dad stands up placing the napkin on the table.
I follow him out of the dining room and into the hallway. As we walk he calls over his shoulder, starting to explain what he found.
"This is all new to me, and even Zeus was unaware of this. It's ancient and has been forgotten, and I found it mentioned briefly in a book about the history of our family, and then saw the term again later in another one. It was even harder because I only have the small amount of information," he lets me know as we walk past his study. He comes to a stop outside a door, pushing to open to reveal on the other side a spacious library holding shelves of old looking books. Most of the books in here are falling apart, and are non-fiction, holding the history of Hell, and some of our family. Most of the family history is up in Olympus. As we enter the fireplaces all allow fire to enter them, causing the room to glow. My dad doesn't look around as he walks to the table in the middle, a book open. I follow quickly behind, and stop on the other side of the table looking down at the pages which are falling apart. The words are written in Greek, and some are missing as a result of holes in the material. I look at my dad; my fingers resting on the edge of the table, feeling my nerves grow even more now that I am actually going to get answers. He smiles at me, and points down at the passage he wants me to look at. I quickly read the Greek that is still there, which translates as:
One of the first pairings, and the ancestors of most ... titans and gods, is Uranus and Gaia, the fact that they are mother and son along with being lovers is not the only interesting thing about their relationship. They also had a ... bond called ápeiro.
The rest goes on to talk more about Uranus and Gaia's relationship. I stop myself from cringing at the reminder of me being born as a result of incest thousands of years ago, as I try and wrap my head around what I just read.
"So... you're saying that I have this ápeiro thing with Reid?"
"Yes, but there's more," he tells me as he reaches for another book.
"Of course there is," I mutter as my dad points to another passage for me to read, this one also in Greek, directed at demons and the passage is still intact:
Ápeiro is an ancient connection between a 'mythical character' and another being (mortal, god, demon, or angel). It is presented as follows; compulsion unable to work on said people (you should not be able to force the people you have this bond with to do anything or forget anything about you), their blood will appeal much more to you than any other, withdrawals will be present when apart from them after the bond has been solidified.
I stop reading and look up at my dad, my eyebrows drawn together over my eyes.
"It says people," I comment.
"Yes, ápeiro can happen with up to four people over a lifetime. The reasoning seems to be that you should choose who you love, and if one were to die you still have a chance at happiness. Your mom was one of the people I had ápeiro with. I never thought anything of it as I never tried to compel her," he tells me going quiet at the end, but quickly clears his throat when he realizes what he said and who he was talking about, almost as if he shouldn't have said that. My mind wonders to Hunter, and the confused feelings I feel towards him. Do he and I have this ápeiro bond? I'll have to test it out when I get home. I've never compelled him to be able to find out if I can.
"What does solidifying the bond mean?" I ask.
"It shouldn't apply to you yet, so you have a chance, if you want it, to find the other people you have ápeiro with. But, when you do want to strengthen your bond, you will consummate it," he tells me. I blush and look away from him as I remember the events that took place a couple of nights ago. Would I have still gone through with it, if I was aware of these facts beforehand? Suddenly, why I am feeling off all day makes sense; I'm having withdrawals from being away from Reid. Confusion fills my body at the emotions, I thought I would be happy at finding out that Reid and I have this bond, and I do, but I also feel sadness and regret at not knowing this information sooner.
"Yeah," I agree. "And once you 'solidify' this bond, you can't go back?" I ask, knowing it sounds stupid. You can't go back and not have sex with that person.
"I'm not sure," he lets me know. "I'll have to look and see if there is any more information in the archives in Olympus. Why?" he asks his eyes narrowing at me. I look away from him again as I answer.
"Oh, nothing, I just want to know when I decide that I was to go all the way," I tell him. "Is that all you found?"
His eyes still narrowed at me, he nods. I flash him a smile.
"OK, I think I'll go to bed, I'm tired." His hand comes and rests on mine.
"Don't rush into this, I've only met Reid a handful of times and he seems perfect for you, but I also am aware that you've had your bad times. Don't take the decision lightly," he says seriously. I've never heard him, the real him, say his real name, so I know that he's deadly serious.
"I won't," I promise him, even though it's too late. He sighs, patting my hand.
"Sleep well," he says, before moving the books towards him.
"You too," I mutter, deep in my thoughts as I walk out of the room. I don't regret having sex with Reid, but I feel like my hands are tied now and I didn't make the decision. I love Reid and do want to be with him, so I should be happy. I try to push all the negative thoughts away, and a grin comes onto my face. He must be able to feel the same feelings as me, and knowing that the universe has put us together makes them even stronger. We're meant to be together. So why is the voice in my head still causing me to have doubts?

We finally know that there is a bond between Reid and Scar. What's your reaction? Happy? Sad? Neither? ;) We will learn more about it all and what it could mean as time goes on.
