Maddie's POV
I can't believe we have to swim today too. We have this swim unit going on and I have a love hate relationship with it. I like swimming yet I hate where they make us use kick boards or float because I have no idea how to swim. So we were divided into 2 groups, beginners, and intermediate.
My class's P.E leader is really nice though, her name is Amy.
Anyways, I'm kinda shy around the leaders, shes a junior and she just helps us out but still ya know.
While my teacher worked with the intermediate group of students, Amy worked with us.
"Grab a kick board and just go back and forth for 5 minutes" Amy said.
We all grabbed a kick board and started. Amy is really nice and funny and motivates us to do stuff even when we really don't want to. As I started with the kick board, I only walked. I didn't wanna float because if I accidentally let go then I'll go under water and it's hard to get up even if the water is only 3'6.
Amy looked at me and laughed at my antics while I continued walking beside my friend, Carrie who floated with the kick board.
"Put all the kick boards on the ledge now. We are all just gonna practice floating. Your partner can support you and remember to relax your muscles and shoulders down"

"Hey Carrie, you go first, I'll help you" I said.
"No no. You go ahead" of course she was kinda scared too.
"I got you. Don't worry"
She started floating and I supported her back and legs. She kept it up for 10 seconds and then let go.
"Your turn" she said happily that she was finally done with it.
"Oh no I'm fine. You wanna go to the other side?" I ask
"You have to Maddie" she looked at me with "that look".
I started walking to the other side of the pool and Amy saw me.
"Maddie!" She called. I turned back to look at her and replied with "yea?"
"Did you float for 10 seconds" she asked.
"Uh yea I did" I lied confidently.
"Okay let me see it"
"But it was so hard to do it" I said
"Maddie, did you actually do it?" She laughed.
"no" I said laughing along with her.
"Here, I'll help you. Come here tho, you'll need the ledge to support you" She said. I walked towards that end again.
"No" I said smiling.
"Cmon you cant say no" she said.
"But.."
"Come on"
"Can we start the next activity already?" I asked
"Not until you float" she smirked
I was walking to the other side again when she started to follow me back too so I turned around and stubbed my foot against the ledge. It hurt so bad but I just decided to go with it anyways.
"Just one time, I promise" she said
"for 3 seconds only" I said
"Okay" she agreed
I started to put my feet up and my other friend Mandy kept me up.
"relax your shoulders back" Amy said.
My foot hurt so bad, I couldn't keep it up without it hurting a lot.
"Am I done?" I asked. Amy nodded so I put my feet back on the ground.
"Can we move onto the next activity now?" I asked.
"One more time" Amy said smiling.
"No way. You said once" I replied
"please. I need to know you can float"
"Its time to go" My p.e teacher announced
"Whoops" I said to Amy and laughed.
MY foot hurt so much and it was so hard to walk but I just sucked it up.
*ONCE I GOT HOME*
"Mom, my foot really hurts. I think we need to go to the hospital" I say
"lemme see" she said. I limped to her room and lifted my foot.
"Oh honey, its all swollen and purple. Lets go" She helped me to the car and reached the hospital.
*AFTER CHECKING IN*
"Hi. My name is..." That voice sounded so familiar so I look up and see Amy.
"Amy?!"
"Oh hi Maddie" she smiles.
"What are you doing here?" I was curious
"I just help Dr. Styles 3 days a week. I just need you to take you to his room" She said helping me up.
"Oh. Mom just wait out here" I tell my mom and she nods.
"So what did you do to your foot?" Amy asks
"oh um, during swimming when I was walking away from you, I hit my foot against the ledge really hard" I mumbled.
"Maddie, why didn't you tell me?"
"I dont know. It would've seemed like an excuse though" I tell her
"Looks like you wont be swimming for a few weeks"
"Haha. One good thing out of this situation" I laughed as Amy laughed along with me.
"Dr. Styles, do you mind if I stay with Maddie through out?" Amy asked Dr. Styles
"Sure. you two know each other?" Dr. Styles asked
"Oh yeah, I'm her p.e leader in gym. We go to the same school" Amy replied while I nodded.
"Come and sit up here" Dr. Styles said. I went up and Amy followed sitting on this stool close to the bed.
"I'm just gonna take your vitals" Dr. Styles said. He took out the thermometer and put it in my ear. As soon as it beeped, he took it out.
"101. hmm you feeling okay?" he asked
"Yea yea" I said brushing it off
"okay but I want you to come back tomorrow if it doesn't get better" he said. I nodded. He took out the b.p thing and took my blood pressure which was normal and then felt my pulse which was normal too.
"Well all seems good. Now what happened to your foot?" He asked
"I was in the pool and I was walking to the other side away from Amy when I hit my foot on the ledge" I laugh along with Amy
"Amy, you didn't notice this?" Dr. Styles asked. Amy just shook her head smiling at my idiocy.
"I'm gonna feel your foot. It'll hurt a little bit but it'll be over in a minute, I promise" Dr. Styles said. He reached for my foot and I pulled it back.
"no! it's gonna hurt even more" I yelped as I jerked it away. Dr. Styles just nodded sympathetically towards me and then looked at Amy and nodded. Amy stood up and walked towards me looking at me like she was sorry for what she was about to do.
"You can squeeze my hand if it hurts. It wont be that bad. I promise" she said. I was so scared honestly. I was having flashbacks of last year when I sprained my ankle which hurt so bad when somebody pushed on it.
"Please no" I whimpered as a tear fell from my eye. This was really embarrassing seeing as I'm 14 and in high school.
"Hey Maddie, its alright, I promise" Amy said as she pushed my shoulders down
"Just lay down. It'll make everything easier" Amy said as she held my shoulders in place as Dr. Styles put my feet up on the bed gently. Amy held my hand and gave it a light squeeze.
"Please don't do it" I pleaded once again.
"Sorry kiddo. It'll be over fast" Dr. Styles said.
