Chapter 5

I frowned as his aura of power hit me. My guess was that he was the Beta of the Blood Moon pack seeing as I had already met their Alpha. “I’m Chelsea, and you are?” I kept my voice calm, trying to convince him that I meant no harm as my claws sliding out of view. He looked at me with a confused look on his face.

“What are you doing here?” He asked again, completely ignoring my question as his eyes turned black.

“Your Alpha brought me here.” I stated simply.

“Well, if that’s true, why wasn’t I notified?” He asked as he crossed his arms, his tone gruff.

I smirked. “I don’t know, why weren’t you?” I asked in a taunting tone, enjoying the fact that this guy was getting riled up. It was actually quite amusing. Even so, I did find it quite odd that Alpha Logan hadn't notified his Beta of my arrival.

He growled at me, my wolf reacting by growling back, the sound escaping my lips the same time it did from her. His eyes widened as his hands dropped to his sides. I had no doubt that the Alpha power in my blood was now oozing out in waves as my wolf felt the threat he posed to us. “You’re of Alpha blood?!” He demanded, right before he lunged to tackle me.

Or he would have if I hadn’t moved out of the way. He turned to me, his eyes wild as his claws and canines appeared. “What are you doing?!” I screeched, my claws appearing as well.

“I won’t allow you to stick around and threaten my pack!” He growled, as he lunged at me again.

I side stepped him, his body shooting by and sliding onto the polished marble countertop of the island in the centre of the large kitchen. “I’m not here to threaten anyone! I told you, Alpha Logan brought me here!” I yelled, hoping he would believe me.

He turned his black wolf eyes on me. “Why would he do that?”

“I’m his mate.” I snapped, an expression of pure shock crossing his face.

“What?” He demanded, his eyes returning back to their original colour, bright blue.

I relaxed and let my claws disappear. “You heard me, I’m his mate.”

“I don’t believe you.” He stated simply.

“Ask him then.” I said crossing my arms.

“Don't order me around.” He growled, as he got off of the counter. My eyebrows knitted together.

“I c-” Just then, Alpha Logan came through the kitchen door.

“Ethan, what are you doing here?” He demanded, his eyes already black probably from finding me in here with another male.

He bowed slightly. “I’m sorry Logan, I didn’t realise that you weren’t here. I was looking for you and found your mate instead.” He said as he turned and flashed me a look. The growl that came from my mate immediately pulled Ethan's attention back to him as he cleared his throat.

“Um, Gordon needs to know if you have a new route for the patrols.” My mate’s eyes flashed back and forth between black and gray as he once again fought for control for the second time today.

“No, I don’t.” He finally answered. “You are dismissed, Ethan. Thank you.” He said curtly. Ethan only nodded and walked out, leaving me to deal with my fuming mate.

I reached out to him. “Logan, are you alright?” I asked, dropping any formalities with him, seeing as he was, after all, my mate. My wolf was happy with the way his name sounded on my lips and from the way his shoulders relaxed, I guessed he did too.

I moved forward and touched his shoulder as I stared up at his flawless face. His eyes were now their usual grey which immediately began to darken as I took a step forward. “I’m fine.” He answered gruffly. I reached up and stroked his cheek; the contact sending a shock through my arms to the rest of my body.

“I can tell that you aren’t. My wolf can sense it.” I said; my wolf howling happily as I moved closer to him. “You can tell me if you need to.” I mumbled soothingly.

He pulled out of my grasp. “I told you, I’m fine. Just drop it.” He snapped before turning and stalking up the stairs; disappearing to the second floor.

It was as if somebody had vacuumed up all of my wolf’s happiness as she was now whimpering and curled up into a ball; her feelings hurt from the way our mate had spoken to us. I wasn’t any better. I grasped my chest as my heart twisted painfully. The animosity he felt for me at that moment coming through clearly through our bond. Why does he feel that way? My wolf asked in a pained whisper.

I shook my head as the pain slowly began to recede. I don’t know, but I’ll find out, okay? She only whispered an ‘okay’ before moving to curl up again; effectively cutting herself off from me. If she was standing in front of me, I would have stroked her fur or tried to comfort her in some way, but she wasn’t so there was only one thing I could do.

I sniffed the air as I slowly climbed the stairs to the second floor; picking up his scent immediately. I played hot or cold with my nose for a few minutes; winding around the endless maze of corridors the second floor of the house had been built with until I finally arrived at a large pair of double doors. The scent I had come to know so well in only a matter of a few hours, was overpowering here.

I knocked. There was no answer so I knocked again; making sure to do it louder this time. “Logan? Are you there?!” I yelled; banging on the door so hard it was amazing it was still standing. After a few moments of silence; I started banging again. “Logan, open the door. We need to talk!” I planted my hands on my hips as I waited for a response.

I almost jumped back when a loud growl came from the other side of the thin barrier; that was the door, in front of me. “Leave me alone.” He ordered. My wolf was still curled up and it didn’t help that he was practically shooing us away. I could feel that it hurt her even more and that made me throw any caution to the wind.

“No, I won’t! Open the door Logan!” I shouldn’t have been ordering an Alpha as powerful as Logan around but I deserved an explanation. He snaps at me for trying to help then goes to sulk in his room?! I don’t fucking think so! “You don’t get to get away with hurting me and especially not my wolf!” I continued as I began banging again. “If you don’t open this damn door, I’m going to break it down!” I threatened.

“Go away!” He roared; the door muffling the sound that still came through quite loud. My wolf was angry now.  One of my legs reared back and kicked out; easily breaking the doors off of their hinges. They each snapped into pieces as they smacked into the far wall of the room which was a good fifteen feet away from the doorway. I marched into the room as my claws slid out; my eyes most probably already charcoal in colour.

Logan was standing by his large, king sized bed; his eyes dark. My wolf was torn between howling happily and tearing a chunk of flesh from his perfectly built body as I gazed at him. “I’m not going anywhere until you explain.” I said defiantly as I crossed my arms. I could see the muscles in his jaw clench as he tried to keep his anger in check.

“Get out of here before I make you regret your decision to come here, Chelsea.” He said menacingly as his canines lengthened. “I’m much deadlier than Ethan is.” My wolf definitely wanted a chunk of flesh now; she didn’t take too kindly to his threat; even if he was our mate. Before I could stop myself; I growled.

“I try to help then you snap at me for no good reason. I’m not asking for much; just a fucking explanation and instead you're  threatening me?! Can’t you feel the pain you’ve caused my wolf?! More importantly, doesn’t your wolf feel it?” I demanded as I felt fur sprouting from the back of my neck.

Before I could react; I was pinned to the wall. “You don’t get to ask for anything! You are here only because some fucking force out there thinks you were meant for me. I didn’t choose you, you were forced on me! I don’t want a mate; so don’t go around thinking otherwise!

The only and I mean only reason you are in my house right now is because that’s the only way my wolf will concentrate on anything other than worrying over whether you're with another male or not! Look at you; you’re a weak, pathetic, snivelling little princess. If I ever wanted a mate; it sure as hell would not be a useless thing like you!” His tone was cold as he yelled at me.

On those last few words, my wolf growled for me to attack him. To get out of his hold and beat the living daylights out of him, because she knew I possessed enough training to defend myself in a situation like this, to do anything to prove him wrong, but I just couldn't. Even in my distressed state, I could tell that this wasn't one of those situations which I could get out of with fighting.

Sure I have practiced sparring with people who were close to his size but after he recovers, he would still be my mate and regardless of what he's said, I didn't hate him and still needed him in my life. I focused on not letting his words get to me too much, forcing the tears of pain that pricked at my eyes to stay out of sight.

He grabbed my hands in one of his and slammed them over my head. I flinched as the backs of my hands hit the wall so hard it cracked. A tear managed to escape as I met his gaze, seeing a flash of something there before they hardened again.

The pain in my chest was unbearable; my tattered heart wrenched violently as it became hard to breathe. It was almost as if my heart was bleeding and the blood had somehow leaked into my lungs; choking me. My legs gave out below me; his hand around both of mine, the only thing holding me up. Even so, I refused to let any other tears leak down my cheeks, he wouldn't get the satisfaction of seeing any more of them.

He leaned in closer. “Understand this; I. Don’t. Want. You.” He whispered before releasing me. I felt him send a blast of hate at me through our bond after every word. I fell to the floor; filled with too much pain to react in any way. He walked to the bathroom as I forced myself to my feet.

Show some strength! You're an Alpha! My wolf snapped, the hurt she'd been put through making her defensive. Before he closed the door, my words stopped him. "I was so hopeful about you, you know?"

He turned to me with a scowl. "What?"

"I was so sure that my brother had been wrong about you." I explained, a scowl of my own appearing. "You've steered me straight, so no worries." I snapped, before turning on my heel and striding out, leaving him watching after me.

I don’t know how, but I managed to make it back to the room given to me without a problem. The moment I did; I locked the door and curled up on the bed. I grabbed a pillow and hugged it to my chest as I finally allowed myself to cry, the tears not enough to express the sadness I felt. Sobs racked my body; my shoulders jerking violently as I gasped for air. I could even breathe in properly anymore; my chest tightening from my grief. Every time I tried to stop, his words would echo in my mind again.

“Look at you; you’re a weak, pathetic, snivelling little princess. If I ever wanted a mate; it sure as hell would not be a useless thing like you!”

The moment they did; a new wave of tears would flow from my eyes. It wasn't the words themselves that hurt me, so much as the emotion they had carried with them. My heart felt like it was barely beating in my chest; in other words, it felt like I was dying from all the pain. I reached out to my wolf and found that she wasn’t any better.

She was now howling in pain inside me. I felt her sorrow mingle with mine and the combination hurt so much that I couldn’t help the scream that escaped my lips. I grasped my chest as my heart began to twist again; his words continuously replaying themselves in my mind; each time getting louder and louder. That was the last thing I heard before darkness consumed me; the agony that filled me, too much for my body to handle.
