Genre: Realistic Fiction
The water is turning translucent indigo as dusk sinks in. She rests by the pebbled stairs of the pool, beholding the tangerine skies where a black blotch of a creature flutters through. As the form flies nearer she learns that it's a little sparrow. She gasps: it dives to the pool, fills its beak with refreshment, before it twirls back into the welkin.
"How pretty!" she gleefully exclaims, clapping once. She brings herself back into the water and floats on her back, watching the sparrow disappear into the distance. "I see it often here! Especially when I take morning laps."
He scowls at her. "Days have been stolen from its lifespan; as well as its offspring's'. That is, if its babies would be lucky enough to survive their mother's thin or deformed shells. How pretty indeed," he says before diving into the pool and gliding in the bottom.
Her breathing stops- her arms and legs flail around; her body is being sucked into the thickness of the water.
