24🔴Fresh Start?

Emerald had been seething ,she had given Blaise the bare minimum in details hoping he would ask any questions and to her relief he didn't, she had told her friends that Draco had left for family business and didn't know when he'd be back ,to save endless conversations about the blonde boy that had taken her heart with him.

She felt so stupid, trusting a death eater had never gone well for anyone so why should Draco Malfoy be any different.

She was currently sat in class 10 days later ,droning out the monotone voice that belonged to Professor Sprout

"And Mister Potter shall be partnered with ...Miss Gaunt" she drawled

Emerald quickly rose her head to face her teacher, this couldn't be happening, they hated each other, didn't they?

Harry sheepishly slid into the seat next to her "hi Em" he spoke quietly

They had been getting along better in the past week or so, sending each other a nod of acknowledgment in the halls, with Emerald sending glares at her Slytherin housemates when they insisted on picking fun of the Gryffindor ,shutting them up instantly.

The pair worked in silence, Harry occasionally glancing at the girl who seemed lost in her work ,ever since that night she had healed him ,he was aware it was because she knew Neville was worried but he had begun to see her in a different light, she was the sort of person who would do just about anything for the people she cared about even though she was a Slytherin and he a Gryffindor

"Shall I get the valerian roots?" he asked her ,breaking the silence

She shot him a small smile "that would be great thanks ,I'd go but if I stop stirring this solution is going to go off"

He nodded setting off the find the plants, stopping suddenly and realising he didn't have a clue where he was supposed to be looking in the castle grounds, he turned back

"Err Em...I ..err..."

"Dont know where they are ?" She smiled "it's fine I'll come with you ,solution needs to stand for a couple hours anyway" the pair set off through the castle grounds

"So..err.." he struggled to make conversation "how've you been?" He chose his words cautiously.

"I've been fine ,what about you?" She didn't give anything away

Harry hummed "also fine" there was silence again "I never did thank you for what you did in Herbology that one time ,so thank you" he realised by now that something was bothering the girl.

"It's fine" she said once more "look" she said boredly, pointing at a clump of weeds ,She bent down ,finding what she was searching for "valerian roots"

He smiled "well done Em ,can we go in now?,it's going to rain" he said laughing

"Potter you fought a Dragon and won ,I'm sure you can handle a bit of rain" she snapped

He frowned "what's up with you?" He asked "something to do with your mental mother?"

Her head whipped around "what the hell did you just say" she was angry now, her friendly demeanour completely vanished. How the hell did he find out?

"Nothing...I...I..."

"Trying to get rid of Voldemort is one thing but let me ask you something Harry Potter , who is it you think Voldemort goes to when he needs to work on a plan? who is it that told him to use the rat Pettigrew to find out where your parents? Who is it that controls the infamous Dark Lord from the sidelines?"
