As it turns out all three girls had Herbology first, they said goodbye to their friends and walked down to the greenhouse
"Today....."spoke Professor Sprout "we shall be learning about Gillyweed, after which I will ask you to complete a project ,with a partner, on its effects"
The class groaned
"Right well I was going to let you pick your partners but seeing as you are all so unmotivated ,I shall be picking them for you" she finished ,glaring at them all
"Finnigan and McCarthy"
"Pucey and Montague"
"Brown and Potter"
"Parkinson and Stark"
"Weasley and Thomas"
"Richardson and McMillan"
"Gaunt and Longbottom"
Neville visably gulped before walking over tentatively and sliding into the seat next to the Slytherin.
"Hello Neville" she said briefly
"Err..yes..ssure...hello.." he stuttered
"Just tell me what bits you want me to write?" She questioned
"Okay sure" he sounded more confident that time
As they worked in silence Neville noticed that she had written that Gillyweed was found near lakes which he knew to be wrong and he looked at her cautiously ,not knowing whether to point out the mistake or not.
After a few minutes of him squirming in his seat, darting looks at her paper she finally snapped,
"What!" she said shortly
Neville recoiled back "errr nothing jjust err .. iits ..near ..rrivers ..nnott ...llakes
"What?" She blinked at him
"Gillyweed...it's found near running water like rivers and streams..not lakes" he said without stuttering this time.
She looked at the fact sheet then back at her paper
"You're right, so it is" she said offhandedly ,lightly crossing it out and writing the correct information next to it.
Neville let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding ,that hadn't been so bad ,she'd been ...reasonable?...
She laughed at his expression "I'm not going to bite your head off for correcting me Longbottom" she spoke looking at him "I'm not so arrogant I can't admit my mistakes" she smiled and Neville nodded quickly before going back to his work.
"I'm going to get the next fact sheet okay?" She told the Gryffindor before rising to her feet and walking over to the resources table where she had spotted Pansy.
"Boo!" She said softly ,making the other girl whirl round
"Salazar Em,you almost gave me a heart attack!" she said clutching her chest, steadying her breathing
"Sorry,Sorry" Em held her hands up ,giggling "how's it going with the cute Hufflepuff over there" she referenced Pansy's partner ,Gideon Stark.
"Shhh" Pansy giggled "he'll hear you"
Emerald raised a perfectly shaped brow at her friend
"Oh alright" she fake sighed "he's really nice and funny oh and so charming....... not to mention bloody beautiful" she swooned
Emerald smirked and opened her mouth to reply to her friend when the door swung open and in walked what might have been the most hideous pink creature that Emerald had ever seen. The resemblance between this thing and a toad was uncanny.
"As you well know, I am Delores Umbridge" she announced with a clear hint of superiority in her voice ,she carried on "Senior Undersecretary to the Minister himself" she looked smug "I hope we can all call ourselves friends here at Hogwarts ,remember my door is always open"
