I put Maddox's car in my garage, then I spent the next 15 minutes cleaning the floor vigorously with bleach There couldn't be any trace, no inclination that he was hurt at all in this house.
He just... left. That wasn't my business, or Marigold's business, and as far as we're all concerned, he dropped her stuff off and left... perfectly alive.
Knock knock
"Hey baby? We're back, Why's the door locked?" I heard Marigold shout through the door Fuck! I looked around frantically and it all seemed to be clean. Everything was going to be fine I had put the knife back in the holder, no one had to know... I just needed to stay calm, act natural and she'd be okay. She'll be safe.
"Coming" I shouted, putting the cleaning supplies away and heading to the door "Hey baby" I smiled, opening the door She smiled too, before she stepped through the doorway and her nose scrunched up.
"Is that... bleach I can smell?" She asked, looking around "Uh- yeah, I cleaned up a little bit" I said "Oh really? Um... why?" She asked confused, putting the boxes of pizza down on the table "I- well... Maddox dropped round while you were out" I began, nodding to her box of things on the kitchen table.
"Oh" she said, nodding slowly "And he wasn't the most... forthcoming with me being here without you, he uh, he mouthed off and threw his coffee everywhere" I lied. A shit lie. But a lie nonetheless I hated lying to her. But it was for her own good I had to make up some excuse for the reason to clean the floor.
"Oh... doesn't surprise me" she mumbled, well he was a dickhead "W-why bleach though?" She asked curiously "I uh, I just wanted to be thorough" I said, she opened her mouth to speak again but Catherine called from outside.
"Can one of you help me get these bags in? There's way too many" she called "I'll go" I smiled, caressing her cheek softly as I placed a kiss on her forehead I could still see red stains under my finger nails, reminding me of what happened a mere half hour ago.
"Okay, I'll take that upstairs before mom sees it" she said, nodding the box I nodded back, her mum still didn't know about Maddox, and I wanted to keep it that way too. I didn't want her picturing Marigold with anyone else.
She was mine, and I was going to prove just how much I love her, that I was the only person right for her daughter "Maybe spray some air freshener too" she chuckled, I had to admit, the bleach did smell really strong.
