I spent the little time I had to myself to compose a text to Marigold's mom and friends
She'd been asleep for hours now and I took it as an opportunity to clean the house up, to hide the car in the garage and lock every door and window in the house.

People needed to think we weren't here, that we were on our trip
So every curtain was drawn, every blind down, no one would see the car, no one would see any hint of life for the next 2 weeks
Giving me time to make Marigold come round.

I just needed to make her understand.
Then we could 'come back' and it'll be like nothing ever happened
We'll be happy.

It felt so... quiet now she was asleep
Now all the screaming had stopped
I hate screaming. Mainly because it was usually me doing it in the night. All the taunting and all the nightmares...

But it cut deeper hearing it from my flower
To hear and see her in such distress
Forcing the sleeping pills into her was even worse
She'd spit them out or she'd scream in my face
She even head butted once or twice, but eventually, she swallowed them.

Now she was getting some much needed rest.

I hit send. Her mom knew Marigold was round mind for the weekend, then we were supposed to head off Monday
She'll be sad she didn't get to say good bye for two weeks of absence, but it was better this way.

Ring ring
Her phone started buzzing
Her mom's name flashing up on the screen, with a photo of the two of them
Smiling... what I'd give to see her smile at me again.

I let it ring out, opting to start breakfast for my flower
I felt... optimistic today
I couldn't change the past, so there was no point thinking on it
I had to move forward, get her to see...

It was like a fresh start for us.
A chance to rekindle and get out all of our problems.

I made her an omelette
I know she likes those
Her phone kept ringing every few minutes, but eventually it stopped
Before my own started vibrating against the table
I sighed, picking it up and seeing Catherine flash up.

I pressed answer
"Catherine?" I greeted, trying to sound confused
"Knox thank god, I've been trying Mari for ages, what's this about you leaving early?" She asked.

"Uh... yeah, sorry, we just thought it would be nice to get away you know, she was too excited for the trip" I chuckled awkwardly
"Can I speak to her please? Girls not answering me" she said lightheartedly
She didn't seem too suspicious
I think she was more confused than anything.
