Chapter 26 In Time

"Kihyun he- he was Jooheon's friend! He lived in that house until just yesterday, how could you not know him?!" I said.

"Lady, I don't know all my tenant's friends or who he brings home. You want to know then ask him yourself, don't bother me." He said and closed the door on me.

"But- ah damn!"

I came outside the apartment and found Jooheon getting into his car to leave. I called out to him and ran in his direction.

"Lee Jooheon!"

He turned around and looked at me as I did. I stopped in front of him panting.

"Oh, Y/N, hello." He said in a friendly tone as he smiled at me.

"Kihyun, where is Kihyun? He brought you back, didn't he? But now everyone says he's never been here! What happened? Is he alright?" I said between pants and anxiousness.

"Y/N are you talking about Yoo Kihyun?" He asked with a shocked expression.

"Yes! Yoo Kihyun your friend! You know him right? Where is he?!" I asked.

"Yoo Kihyun... has been dead for 2 years..." Jooheon said.

"What...?" My eyes opened as wide as they could and my heart dropped at his words.

"Yes... but how do you know about him?" He asked.

"No this... isn't true... I saw him yesterday, h-he was here until yesterday... I thought of talking to him but couldn't... and now he's been dead for 2 years...? How is that possible?" My eyes moistened up and my words couldn't leave clearly.

"Y/N, are you alright? I don't understand what you're talking about." Jooheon said.

"...I need to do something. This isn't right. I have to undo what he did yesterday." I said and quickly dashed out of there.

        I ran past pedestrians through the streets. Everything around me was a blur as I dashed through the streets to the person who could give me the answers I wanted. It wasn't long before I reached Hyungwon's house. I was completely out of breath and could barely stand. I took a moment to catch my breath before knocking on the door as hard as I could. The door opened revealing Hyungwon.

"Y/N? What are you doing here?" He asked.

"Kihyun. You gave him the watch?!" I asked.

"Yeah, yesterday," He answered.

"He used it and brought his friend back. But he's gone and no one remembers him. It's like he never existed the last two years. What happened to him?" I asked worriedly.

"He wanted to bring his friend back and he did. His wish was to bring his friend back, no matter the consequences. He had a choice. To choose his life over his friend's or his friend's over his own. And I guess you can see who he chose to save," Hyungwon explained.

"But why would he do that?! There must have been another way!" I asked not accepting the present.

"There was no other way and that's just how things are," He said.

I thought about it for a while. I knew what I had to do. It's not gonna be easy but I had to do it at all costs. 'I made a promise after all.'

"I can go bring him back," I said.

"No," Hyungwon replied.

"Why not?! There must be a way to bring Kihyun back. I won't know unless I try," I said.

"I told you, there is no other way. Kihyun lost his life doing it. What are you going to do if the same thing happens to you?" He asked.

"I won't lose myself doing it but I will try. If my life is what you're worried about, you don't have to. Tell me the date he went back to," I said.

He stayed silent for a while before lowering his head. There was an unsettling atmosphere. He looked nervous more than he's ever showed to me at least.

"May 14, 2015." He said.

"Thanks," I said before pulling my watch out of my pocket.
