"Scarlett."

"Hello, Rowan."

We both stood there. The atmosphere was still.

This is the part where a random Ed Sheeran song plays in the background.

"What are you doing here?" he asked me after a few seconds.

"I'm coming home," I responded.

"Home." He said that four-letter word as if he'd never heard it before, yet, knew what it was.

"With you."

Rowan took a step towards me. I saw the nervousness on his face.

"You don't know how much I've missed you, Scarlett," he said in a low voice.
Before I knew it, his scent engulfed me.

"I'm sorry," he responded.

I found myself hugging him back.

I felt his lips moving against my neck when he spoke as he held on to me.

"It's okay."

His hold was a bit tight, but I didn't mind. This is what I wanted. I didn't know you could miss a person this much.

I didn't even miss my parents this much and they brought me into the world.

"Can we talk?"

I nodded against his chest, and he let go of me. He held on to my hands, giving them a gentle squeeze.

"I'm hungry," he said causing me to laugh.

"What do you want to eat?" I asked, swinging our arms.

He bit his lip and rose an eyebrow.

I let go of his hand to smack him in the chest. "Pervert," I mumbled, rolling my eyes.

He chuckled and grabbed my duffel bag from behind me.

Alarms set off in my mind. "No," I all but shouted.

He turned around, confusion written on his face. "No?"

"I have..." I trailed off, trying to think of a lie. "lady things in there," I finished before mentally drowning myself in a volcano.

He stared at me for a second longer than I liked before giving me the bag.

I grabbed it. "I'll just go put this in my room," I said quietly before walking out of his study.

Walking into another guest bedroom down the hall, I closed the door.

I looked around the room.

The walls were a shimmery gray color. There was a huge dresser and mirror set against the right side of the room. A Queen-sized bed was to the right.  The room was just as big as my last one.

There was an attached bathroom and everything was decorated with silver glitter and white decor.

There was a bay window with silver and white pillows littered neatly. It gave me a view of his back yard which was beautiful.

There was a perfect view of his garden as well.

There was a knock on my door, jolting me out of my thoughts.

I turned around at the same time the door opened.

Rowan stood there with a weird look on his face. "I'm about to go grab some burgers," he said, scratching the back of his neck.

His eyes flitted around the room, quickly, before landing back on me.

"I'll come with you," I spoke which earned a surprised look from him.

"Uh, sure," he stuttered over his words.

We stood there, awkwardly as we looked around the room and at each other.

"Um, Rowan?" I spoke in barely a whisper.

"Hmm?"

"I have to change," I said sheepishly.

"Just take the robe off, we're only going through the drive-thru," he said.

I stared at him for a moment longer than I intended to. "I don't have anything under here."

A look of surprise rested on his face before a glint of mischief. "So, I could take you right here."

Again, he wasn't asking, he was stating his thoughts. He was thinking out loud.

I nearly choked on my own saliva at his blunt statement. I saw no lies there either.

For him to have been molested, he sure did tell a lot of jokes. Maybe it a mask, or a form of defense.

"Privacy, Rowan," I said in a serious tone.

Maybe I couldn't think of him the same.

What was momentarily important was that he did leave me alone. He walked out, closing the door behind me.

I dropped my robe and dug around the papers in my bag to get some jeans and a top.

Pulling on my jeans, I grabbed the little red book from the bag and shoved it in my back pocket.

After getting dressed, I walked downstairs to see Rowan sitting in the lounging area, his eyebrows creased together in frustration as he stared at his phone.

"Is there a problem?" I asked him, jumping off the last step.

His head snapped up and he shoved his phone in his pocket without answering my question.

There's the Rowan I knew. "Let's go," he said, grabbing my hand as we walked out of the door.

My heart fluttered at this small gesture.

We walked to the car and I felt sad when we had to go our separate ways to get in.

After we pulled out of the driveway and onto the road, I pulled out the red book.

I was sure he couldn't see it in the dark which made me happy. Was I doing the right thing to confront him about this?

"Rowan, why haven't you told me more about your childhood?" I asked.

We passed a streetlight at the right time to see his jaw clench.

I wasn't going to back down.

I knew that I and his mother were possibly the only two who would actually understand him.

"You never asked," he said as we pulled out onto the highway.

I looked at him.

"Mierda," he hissed, leaning back in his seat.

I looked in the rearview mirror to see an eighteen-wheeler pull up behind us. I smirked.

The headlights around us provided us with enough light to be able to see each other clearly.

When I looked at Rowan he was looking at my lap.

"What game are you playing with me, Scarlett?"
