-HIM-

I should have been happy seeing the familiar view of Zaeris but I wasn't. At all. It felt like a huge chunk was missing from me and it actually was. It was her. She was not with me anymore and I didn't know where she was.

There was no clue as to where she might have gone. I couldn't feel her through the bond either because she wasn't anywhere near me. This only made it worse for me because it fed my agitation and anxiousness.

My mind couldn't stop thinking about her. I couldn't help but wonder where she was and in what condition she was in. It only made me hate myself even more, knowing that I couldn't save her. She had already suffered a lot because of her past and also for me. Her absence made me feel worse about myself.

I wanted to find her as soon as possible but where? My first ever suspect was Cleopatra. It had to be her. She had been sending assassins after my mate for a long time now. It should be her.

I was completely lost in my thoughts as the carriage carried us through our kingdom and to the palace. Mother and father were silent too but I could tell from the tension in the air that they were going to have some fights later.

As the carriage stopped in front of the palace, I didn't feel like getting out. I instead wanted to go straight to Alexandria to get my Pharaoh.

"Ares," Father grumbled at me. He was very mad at me and so was I at him. I got out of the carriage and went inside the palace with them.

"Ares!" A familiar voice squealed before a small figure was hugging me. It was my sister. "We've missed you so much!" She cried. I wanted to reciprocate the excitement of seeing her but I couldn't. My focus was somewhere else.

"Not now, Avyanna," Mother took Avyanna away while my sister looked at me with deep concern.

"It's great to see you back, Ares," Regulus was there as well along with the triplets. My whole family was there. I was seeing them again but I still felt empty and unhappy because the very important person in my life was missing. I couldn't stop thinking about her. We needed to find her soon.

I was aware of how time was slipping past our fingers like sand. Something needed to be done sooner or it might get too late. I didn't want that happening. I would lose my sanity if something ever happened to her.

"We need to do something soon," I told father as he led me towards his office after meeting my family. Mother accompanied me as well. They didn't breathe a word until the three of us were in my father's office.

"What have you done, Ares?" Mother finally spoke when we were back. I pressed my lips in a thin line and looked at my feet when the guilt finally took over me. I was now able to realize how many innocent lives I had claimed but again, they were after Arsinoe.

She didn't do anything to them yet they wanted to take her away from me. I and my wolf couldn't stand that. They meant harm to her.

"I know," I muttered, "I know what I did was wrong but they were after her!" I shouted. Father growled and mother shook her head at me and I just couldn't let them get away with it.

"When did you last see her?" She asked instead.

"I saw her last when I left for work in the morning. When I came back, she wasn't in our house and..." I told them everything while they listened to me.

"I am sure it's Cleopatra who has kidnapped her. I am sure it's her! She has been sending assassins after her for a long time!" I told mother. Her eyes were wide. "We need to do something to the Ptolemies!"

"We cannot just go out and do something to them," Father commented.

"Why not?" I frowned at him, "It was her who sent Arsinoe to kill mother. If there's anyone who we need to act against, it's them!" I told him.

There was a knock on the door before Regulus and the royal advisor, Armelius entered the office. They were soon enlightened on the matter before the discussion continued.

"We cannot directly do anything to the Ptolemies," Armelius commented the same and my father nodded.

"But Cleopatra has my mate!" I exclaimed.

"Even if she has your mate, we cannot directly do anything against them. They are one of the greatest civilizations among the mortals. Harming them would mean harming the growth of the humankind and that is strictly against our policies," Armelius' words only made the frown on my face deeper.

"Cleopatra's affairs are already going to destroy the dynasty anyway," I told him.

"We still cannot interfere with fate. If we do anything against them then a lot of things in the future of the humankind might turn unfavourable,"

"How?" I couldn't help but ask.

"The Egyptians are cleaver, especially the woman who rules them. They have devised many things and policies from which the modern-day humans will take inspiration. We just cannot destroy them like that. It will hinder the future," Armelius answered.

"He's right," Mother spoke up, "I have lived in the time to see it myself," She added. This only made me even more furious. My mate was in danger and all they were doing here was think about the very mortals who wanted to harm my mate in the first place.

I am sure that instead of my mate if it were mother then father wouldn't have been hesitant to wipe away their whole civilization in the blink of an eye.

"Then what are we going to do?" I asked Armelius very calmly even though my blood was boiling at that moment. I and my wolf wanted to spill blood.

"We will send our spies first. We must know if Cleopatra has even kidnapped your mate in the first place or not and if she has then what is she planning to do with her," Armelius suggested and everyone in the room instantly agreed with him except for me.

I protested but we ended up doing according to Armelius' advice. Spies were sent that very day. All we had to do was wait for them but there was this gut feeling inside me which was telling me that the spies' news would disappoint me.

I wasn't able to sleep the whole night. I kept pacing, waiting for the morning to bring me some hope and news. I wasn't willing but I still showed up at the courtroom.

Everything was the same in Zaeris after I had left. Only I had changed. Regulus now sat on the right side of the king's throne- where I previously sat. I took my place among the crowd with Augustus and Celeste this time instead. I felt everyone's eyes on me as the session at the court continued.

I was finding it hard to sit silently. I wanted to know where the spies were and if they had any news. Today everyone in the courtroom seemed tense and I knew it was because of me.

Just when the session was about to be over, a spy showed up.

"What news do you have?" Father asked. The spy bowed very low before he disappointing everyone with his news, "Arsinoe is not in Alexandria,"
