You picked it up. "I'll take this back, thank you very much."
Fuyu glanced up at you and your eyes met. You froze, ready to fall back into her genjutsu. But nothing happened.
"Why?" You asked.
Fuyu lifted her mask up. "Read the journal. Master the power."
A power apparently only used by one person before you. "Who was the other?" You asked.
Your aunt glanced at Sho. "Kana Kuraimura." She stood and brandished her own blade. "Now get out of here."
You met her eyes again. It was her. The Fuyu from your memories. She was back. But for how long?
"Thank you." You nodded to her. And then you activated your eyes and slid into the shadows.
You looked back only once.
Fuyu had somehow managed to regain control of her body, although you weren't sure if it was permanent. Sho was Fox's puppet- somehow that b*tch had broken him without your aunt's help. But he had seemed so close to taking your side... had it all been an act? But this wasn't the time to reflect on things. You had the journal. You needed to find Kakashi and Yamato and leave.
A flash of silver and Kakashi was by your side.
"You alright?" He asked. You glanced over to find blood running down his temple. Both of his eyes were still exposed.
"I should be asking you the same thing."
He nodded. "Just a scratch."
Yamato appeared on your other side. "You have the journal?"
"Yeah. Let's go."
Quick like lightning, your little trio stuck to the shadows as you slipped out of the village and into the forest beyond. You didn't stop running until the war camp was in sight.
"Let's stop here." Your group paused on the edge of the camp.
"What is it?" Yamato asked.
You glanced between the two males. "I want to thank you both for helping me."
Yamato nodded in acknowledgement. "If it helps us win this fight, then it'll be worth it."
You shot him a grateful look. "I promise this journal will help us." You patted the pouch it was stored in. "But... I also have to ask that neither of you tell anyone about our little excursion."
Kakashi hummed in agreement. "The leaders of the other shinobi forces might not be pleased to hear that we broke into the Night Village without discussing it with them first." He met your eyes and gave you a closed eye smile. "I promise to not tell anyone."
Yamato agreed and your trio snuck back into camp. As you slipped between the shadows, Yamato eventually went his separate way. Which left you and Kakashi alone.
The silence was heavy as you walked toward his tent. Should you go in with him? Or bid him goodnight and find somewhere else to sleep? You didn't want to intrude on Aki and Ruka again, so you'd probably find somewhere else to-
"I want you to know something."
You were snapped out of your thoughts at Kakashi's voice. You both stopped outside of his tent and he turned to face you. After a quick glance around, he pulled his mask down. His eyes were soft and his hair glowed like a halo in the pale moonlight.
"(Y/N)..." He gently grasped your hand and clasped it over his heart. "I would never judge you. What happened during that meeting- it changes nothing about the way I feel for you. I love you. Shadows and all."
Your eyes welled with tears. "Kakashi..." You rose onto your tip-toes and grasped the side of his head, kissing his forehead lovingly. "I don't know what I did to deserve you."
He rested his forehead against yours and sighed. "You deserve everything."
You smiled. "About what happened-"
He held a finger to your lips. "You don't owe me an explanation. If you don't want to talk about it, it's okay."
You shook your head and pulled his finger away. "I just want to apologize for lashing out at you. You didn't deserve that. It's just... I was confused about who I was and what was happening to me. But now..."
A breeze brushed by and you inhaled the night air. "I know who I am. I just needed to be alone to figure it out. I promise- what happened in the tent will never happen again."
Kakashi wove his fingers through your hair, pushing it out of your face and tilting your head up. "I know you, (Y/N). I know that you are the most wonderful, beautiful person I have ever known. You are selfless and will do anything for the people you love. Remember that- even when things seem hopeless, I am on your side. No matter what."
You smiled at his beautiful words and leaned up, pressing a soft kiss onto his lips. "And I am always on your side. I stand with you, Kakashi." You wrapped your arms around his waist and leaned back as another breeze floated by. You closed your eyes and breathed it in.
When you opened them again, Kakashi was watching you with red-tainted cheeks. "You-" He stopped and cleared his throat. "You should stop..."
You frowned. "Stop what?"
He looked down at you in his arms and gulped. "You're just..."
"What, Kakashi?"
He sighed in exasperation. Then out of nowhere, he wrapped his arms around your waist and hoisted you over a shoulder. "Stop making such cute faces!"
You yelped in surprise but his grip was strong enough that you wouldn't fall. You giggled as he carried you into his tent, the flap closing behind you. You squealed as he tipped you over and onto his bed. You heard him chuckle in the dark as well.
"(Y/N)?"
"Yes, Kakashi?"
"Will you stay with me?"
"Always."
