Last

Today's my last day here at Laurant.

I will miss this.

I will miss to cut on the operating table.

I will miss those unpredictable patients in the ER.

I will miss those scary decision making when a patient is about to lose his or her life.

Those happy memories, those wrong calls, those patient who died in my hands. All of them...I will bring it with me.

I still have one year of residency before I can take the boards and be certified. Hindi ako magaling but I believe in hardwork. What I am right now, it is because of hard work and perseverance. If I pass the board and be a certified thoracic surgeon, I will take another subspecialty.

I want to be triple board certified.

Thoracic, Trauma and Neuro. That is my goal.

"Hi. Is Dr. dela Fuentes inside?" She nodded after a short pause.

"He's available now. Pasok ka, doc." Ngiti niya sa akin. I muttered my thanks before I walked towards the door. I knocked three times then I gently turned the knob. Tito Augustus is sitting on his swivel chair and reading something. His face lit up upon seeing me.

Looking at Tito Augustus is like looking at the future Abraham.

"Selah." He greeted me then he stood up and motioned me to sit on the couch.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked still smiling. I chuckled a bit before I shook my head.

"Tito, I came here to say thank you. For all the things you did for me and for my family. Especially with mama." I sincerely said. There's a ghost of smile on his lips upon hearing that.

"What I'd do for dear Esmeralda, Selah." He said still smiling.

"Your mother didn't tell you?

"We were ex-lovers way back college. We're best of friends, too until we decided to take it to the next level. And I tell you, hija, that's the craziest idea we've ever thought of. We were so compatible at being best of friends but can make each other's lives a living hell when we became couples."

Naiiling at natatawa niyang kwento. I was so shocked I couldn't even react. Si Tito Augustus...at....si Mama?

"She did not tell me, Tito."

"What do you expect from your mother? Even Pablo knows that!

I can imagine a very jealous and irritated Pablo Juliano Cortez.
